@steelviking Joe gives 100% every time he plays and tackles well above his weight, But he is not a creative half back or a running half back. Currently we have not got a creative running half back capable of breaking the line, in fact I don't believe we have any player capable of breaking the line. In Tom Gilmore we have a good 7 who could get the team around the park and manage the game nicely if he was not playing behind an under sized beaten pack. That was proven when he was at Batley playing behind a good pack. It is plainly obvious to anyone with an ounce of rugby league IQ what we are missing and what has been missing for several seasons - but here we are bumbling along same old, same old while all the the other clubs around us seem to recruit sensibly and don't appear to have the same deficiencies as we have. Sounds like the record's stuck - well that's cos it is!!!!!!

@gpo1971 Joe could play for Penrith panthers and he still wouldn’t be good enough it’s just simple as that it’s not a personal attack it’s just pointing out the clear and obvious. He’s never been good enough and sadly he never will be, we’ve been crying out for a quality half since cravens injury run and have never got one.

Many on here (including me) do not believe that Joe Lyons is a Championship standard player, but clearly several coaches have held a different view. Who is to say who is right? My bet is on the coaches, including a World class coach, who I recollected wanted to convert him to full back, rather than half-back.

I have never really felt it was right for individual players to be singled out for constant abuse and harsh criticism by some posters. It seems that Hamilton has managed to build a squad of average players at best and Joe Lyons is just another average player in that squad.

That's very true to call it Hamilton's squad cannot for the life of me figure out why he needs to see the players after the final whistle very odd indeed.

Not me - I've always thought him a decent player.

Lyons isn’t a bad player, imo he’s not a top 6 championship starting 6 but if used as a backup then I would say keep him. If rumors are true it seems next season it’ll be Patton 6 & Gilmore 7. Joe can be utilized as cover when needed

@mckviking

He certainly seems to be tougher than he looks and never backs off a tackle.

Lyons has improved under a decent coach, but I am sure Coleman will improve a better half back too. Lyons is worth keeping though, as who knows if a half back gets injured.

Joe has responded to the confidence shown in him, but there should be competition for places through out. No first choices, if you perform you get picked if you don't then you should lose your place.

Agree and Patton will give competition for places, plus we can not rely on all the halfbacks staying fit. I also think Coleman will improve Patton like he has with Lyons. A good player Lyons but not on the level of a Danny Craven, but for me Lyons is very robust player which i do like. I do not want to see too many passengers in the squad, and luckily there is some robust players.
