..and as usual, I've heard people coming out saying the player was 'treated disgustingly' by the club.

These clowns always come out of the woodwork. It goes like this - the player is upset that they didn't get everything their own way and tell anyone who will listen how they have been treated 'disgracefully'. Next thing you know, you've got fans (usually the players' mate / family member / dog walker) saying the club should be ashamed etc etc just because they didn't pay their favourite player exactly whatever they wanted and give their wife a new Mercedes. Dozens of cases down the years, like when Isa went to Wigan etc.

In almost every single case, players make their own bed and then don't like lying in it so they tell the whole world about their 'mistreatment'.

Has signed for Swinton.

A lot of disappointed people on here when Hatton wasn't offered a new contract.  It's often interesting where they end up as a reflection of how right the initial decision was for us.  Appreciate Hatton walked away from the game for a few months but the fact that he's gone to Swinton in League 1, says enough to me to suggest we made the right decision.

But Widnes did offer JH a deal, he wanted to pursue a FT career, and 'dallied' waiting for offers. Widnes subsequently spent 'his offer' on other players from relegated Oldham etc. Make no bones about it, Widnes wanted JH to stay. The situation was a bit of a mess IMHO, that was then, and this is now.

Pick which ever narrative suits yourselves.

Likewise you can have whatever narrative suits yourself too, the fact remains the same, whether Widnes wanted JH to stay or not, they made their decision to not keep him.  Albeit as you suggest after withdrawing their initial offer, he has still ended up in League 1 playing for Swinton.  Agree with Sinbad - Sam Freeman was suppose to be a big loss for us too, they'd have got better moves if they both were.

Don't you get the point yet ? Hatton did not want a deal otherwise he would still be here. No idea how you deduce the it was the clubs decision to let him go ?. The mind boggles.

Just to throw in my tuppence worth, our present wingers are nowhere near as good as Hatton was.

@mick-george  To support what you wrote - was not the scenario that the club offered JH terms, part time terms. He set his heart on playing full time rugby, and no-one can blame him for this!, so decided to accept a full time contract with Leigh. He left for honourable reasons, he did what he thought was right to further a full time career.

The fact that things didn't work out for him at Leigh is of no matter - he was offered terms by us.

Not sure how you apply this to Hatton nobody has said he has been treated badly, unless of course you are referring to Ince.

Looks a bit as if he started to believe his own publicity and got carried away by Degsy who, it seems, will sign anyone at the drop of a hat.

A time to settle down and develop as a player out of the spotlight might be a good idea with time to explore other options in the game, on the field or off!

Liam Marshall did something very similar, when his Wigan Career stalled, he went to Swinton on loan, and rejuvenated his career, think he scored 20 odd tries by the end of his loan period.                             Sincerely hope Jayden's career follows Liam's path..

You're bang on about Marshall, coz he had a superb season with us, scoring some spectacular tries.

We were sorry to lose him, but obviously couldn't stand in his way, he's now a regular starter at Pies, and in the England train on squad, which we're all pleased about.

His spell at the Lions did both him, and us a great deal of good, and hopefully Hatton may one day, be in Wane's thinking.

Spelly.

Shame for Hatton. Should really be number 2 for Widnes this season. Agents have a lot to answer for.

He'll probably score a hatful for Swinton this season and end up at Halifax or better next term. Deon Cross has shown it can be done.
