As there is no thread started, here goes. HT Halifax 10-18 Widnes. Great first half by the sounds of it but two very strange decisions by the ref have changed the state of 5he game after we went 18-0 up and seemed to be coasting it. Commentary by James seems to indicate that  the ref became possessed after Gilmore was tackled into touch and gave Fax a penalty which led to their final score.

Why doesn’t it surprise me we’re talking about bizarre ref decisions and not the performance. Scandalous low quality of officials in this league.

Concerning last 10 mins and first 10 mins however. Forget the decisions for a minute, you need to defend and we’re not when fax are at our line

Good win- we were under pressure and with a bit of a patched up line up any result away from home is a pleasing one! Well done to players and staff- rather have a calmer second half though!!

2 points is 2 points.

ref sounded awful and maybe we deserve a bit of luck after recent weeks. Sounded like a good travelling contingent and well down to those lads never letting their heads go down which could have happened after throwing away an 18 point lead

Great recovery, listening to commentary some very dodgy decisions - Gilmore makes break from our line, dragged in touch and they get the penalty - so what we won

well done to the lads for that

onwards and upwards

Great result and great travelling contingent.
Superb last set defence to prevent Jouffret from bundling his way over and pinching the game with seconds to go.
As for the Gilmore penalty. I’ve still no idea why it was given. Gilmore breaks and is caught by the chasers. He is being dragged out into touch and releases the ball to since who looks to be away and clear.
but the referee gives the penalty to Fax.
Coleman came down at half time and walked onto the pitch for an explanation but no idea why it was awarded.

Apparently the refs reason for penalising Gilmore was because his arm was on the ground when he passed the ball, so he was tackled when he passed the ball. But if he was tackled , then the ref should have penalised Halifax for continuing to drag him into touch.

He also let a lot of high tackles go unpunished, some of them he pointed to his shoulder. Widnes players must have very big shoulders that stretch to their heads🙄. But of course when we did a high tackle it was penalised.
The standard of refereeing is getting worse.

Super league ref as well wasn’t it James Vela?

Good support from the Widnes fans, who although outnumbered, made a lot more noise supporting their team, than the Halifax' fans did.

If we can beat Bradford next week, we will go level with them in the table.

@farnworth-viking

yeah that was what was confusing? The first offence was surely Fax dragging him to the line. Gilmore only reacted in response to the Fax players dragging him.
It genuinely looked like he had looked really hard to find a reason to penalise Widnes.
