Anyone else see the full 80 minutes podcast with mick gledhill n Craig Harrison...was commented that our playing budget is around double for next season compared to this and will be upwards of 500k ...I know mick can get things wrong but Harrison will definitely be in the know being one of the biggest agents .....its on YouTube n they talk briefly about widnes just beyond the half hour mark ....very interesting if true ...for one thing wheres the money coming from ....thoughts ?
Maybe includes forecast revenue from the new fans scheme ?
Maybe new sponsorship deals for next season ?
Maybe new investment from additional backer(s) for next season ?
Maybe a bit of foreknowledge re extra central funding for next season ?
Maybe a combination of some / all of the above.
Alternatively, maybe the figure mentioned in the podcast is just a ‘finger in the air’ gues by the podcaster.
No doubt we’ll see in time.
@royston-vasey Was not we still limited on spending due to admin ?.
Was more a curiosity thing than anything else...seems a bit out of left field although matt Shaw via love rugby league ran a similar story about us spending alot more than this season...just curious as to how we've gone from barely a pot to piddle in to considerably upping the budget ...especially on dwindling crowds ..discontent etc etc....has their Been funds held back this year in readiness for the restructure plans ...is their been or is their an imminent investment ..or more money been earned than any of us thought ...guessing will find out in due course
I’d like it to be an investor looking at potential takeover but just via sponsorship to start off but it’s probably more likely we held back this season so we can spend more next year in hope of making super league 2
It's because the club are petrified of the x2 divisions of 10 that is imminent in 2024 (apparently). They are spending more on the squad next year for this exact reason - this is 100% true.
Wrapping up 4 players already, 2 of them from SL clubs is testament to this. It's only right, this club is underachieving and under performing for too long now.
@viking-man who are the 4 players ...heard lots of rumour with walker..amor..Johnstone. gilmore but nothing you'd call solid other than the amor source
@viking-man Most teams in the Championship and a good few in SL will have concerns about the apparent proposals for a two tier SL in 2024. If it is simply an opportunity for the ten Clubs in the upper league and particularlyWigan, Warrington, St Helens, Leeds, to make a grab for more of the Sky money at everyone else’s expense, then the clubs have every right to be concerned.
Those in the second tier of SL needs to be properly funded if promotion and relegation is to be part of the set-up, but will those clubs be just thrown a few extra crumbs left over from the grab by the top clubs. There is also the question as to what happens to the 16 clubs that miss out on the feeding frenzy?
@royston-vasey Haven’t VIQI also agreed funding of £120,000 in 2023, which presumably is the anticipated balance in the fund at 1 August?
Funny isn't it how when club isn't spending money, there's a crisis, and then when someone suggests the club is spending money, it's suspicious 😀
The club is certainly aware that it needs to get things right in 2023 and ensure it's in the top however many needed to retain Championship for 2024.
People seem to have made up that the club hasn't got a pot to piss in - but it's run sustainably with no debts, which is surely what everyone wants. And they've got to a point where they can sustain an increase in investment next season, which is surely only a positive.
@jdgsport no suspicion whatsoever mate n yep 100% agree it's a positive step ...was just curious how the club could afford such a step up in budget in such a amount of time.....totally understand the reasoning based on the restructure just didnt know how it was viable when there's all this talk about dwindling crowds...viqi disbanding..alot saying they won't sign up to the new scheme etc.....but yeah was more than happy to hear there's serious intent for 2023
@viking-man who are the 4 players ...heard lots of rumour with walker..amor..Johnstone. gilmore but nothing you'd call solid other than the amor source
You say the Amor rumour is "solid" - has it been confirmed by either club or the player himself?
If not, it's still "rumour" at present...
@jdgsport Well said James. Sometimes the Club just cannot do right for doing wrong. Maybe the CEO and the Board should be commended for making funds available for the squad in what could well be a critical year for the Club and rugby league in general.
@sunny well it came from better sources than someone on here just plucking a name out of a hat
