Emails going out regarding the new subscription scheme today. Some early highlights : independent, for squad improvements only, visibility of numbers etc. Thoughts?

Yes, it sounds alright. It would still be independent from the club, they would have regular meetings with the club about how to use the money, and it would only be used for buying players. The committee  would  be voted in every 12 months,  so anyone unhappy with what they have been doing could vote them out.

@farnworth-viking

Sensible independently run and funded option for fans wanting to help out and hope all from VIQI will be on board!

It sounds good on first inspection. Sounds like a bit of thought has gone into it which can’t be a bad thing.

Can't see many more options tbh!

There do seem to be clubs receiving quite substantial funding from well-heeled backers. For whatever reason there seems to be little sign of us getting that so it's down to us, I guess.

A large number of small amounts can produce as much as a small number of large amounts without the vulnerability of the millionaire changing his mind and walking away!!!

From what I have seen so far it seems good to me. Necessary safeguards seem to have been covered. Presumably it will get the once over from a legal expert as well before being finalised.

I'll wait to see what the consultation brings. It sounds much like the supporters group some here have argued for. But that included a real supporters role in the club, with a share holding reflecting the size of their donation to its purchase and running, and some degree of board presence.

Without that, it could be a big mistake. What does it give the supporters that VIQI doesn't? If it's basically the same then a better bet would be to keep VIQI going but change the leadership, if the current leaders are not happy.

Unless I'm mistaken, VIQI received a huge jump in funding when the club was on its deathbed. A lot of people commited to sizable monthly payments to help the club get on it's feet. VIQI is still receiving these funds and, if things are left as they are, donors will continue to contribute unless they opt out. Changing to a new setup requires all these donors to opt in to it. In marketing I think its called customer inertia, if they're in they tend to stay in and out they tend to stay out, and its vaue is immense. Thats most of the reason for all the offers and other incentives to get people in to TV packages, phone deals etc. Its quite possible a significant number of supporters will not transfer across because they will never get round to it, why bother taking the risk?

Perhaps people who left VIQI and those who wouldn't subscribe due to an unelected board member will take interest once more. The notion looks very promising.

If the politics/set-up of VIQI is an issue change the set-up, don’t throw money down the drain for nothing.

VIQI is being shut down by VIQI. Only they will be able to answer why it wasn't possible to just simply pass the baton on to somebody else.

Something new has to be created and to start from scratch. If all that people want is a "squadbuilder" type independent organisation to put money in to then hand over to the club for signings (ie. largely what VIQI originally was) which is independent and has transparency over monies in and out, this seems like the best case scenario and there's nothing to say it couldn't evolve over the years should the membership wish it to.

Where VIQI probably started to run in to troubled waters was, probably through no fault of its own, through necessity it had to get involved in the takeover and the reality of what it is changed, when the running of it didn't.

Lots of truth in that James, I only joined VIQI when phoned as the club was about to go under - the misses even joined as well ! ( no connection with Widnes)

I will probably join the new scheme, but as was said previously people have probably forgotten about their regular direct debit and will not renew

interesting to see the uptake
