Are Oldham paying silly money, or are Widnes being tight? That is the question.

If Oldham are risking it all on Promotion next year, then good luck to them.

Farnworth could do tonnes better than Oldham....honestly expected him to go to a Salford or a Huddersfield if he left us.

Well nothing on the Official site, and surprised Oldham because they will probably be in league 1 next year. Is it another rumour like Langtree and the hooker from Barrow?

Well let's keep winning and enjoy the rest of the season. Some nice rugby since Kear gone and seems Lyons is playing much better since Kear gone.

Yes he's a decent player but we can't afford players who don't play and if they happy with league 1 that's up to them

Looks like the tying up of VIQI will boost our coffers for next season. Maybe fining down our squad ready to take new lads on based on 'bang per buck', particularly among the props!

Again as good as he is when he plays he spends most of his time in the stand I won’t lose sleep over anyone leaving this squad really apart from fozzard as long as we bring in suitable replacements, only time will tell if the level of replacement is good enough

Lyons has hardly missed a game tbh, he may not be the biggest but he works hard!!! His kicking takes some pressure off Gilly who could well be a target to hit these days.

Agreed about Farnworth. Showed what he can do in glimpses however spends far too much time on the sideline for a 24 year old.

better than League 1 standard but if it gives him some security with a decent contract fair play to the lad

lol I just can't say it !! I just don't think Lyons is good enough to take us higher than mid table yes he's durable  but in a position where you need a touch of class or a game changer and for me he's just not got it

And maybe when we have signed the next Andy Gregory we can give him a game, but for now we'll play a lad who wants to play for Widnes!!

@sandgroper not after Andy Gregory lol we all want to play but I'm told old and not good enough doesn't mean because I want to means I should be playing!!don't be so defensive!! It's a forum in MY opinion I think we could do better than Joe Lyons

@vikingfox71 Lyons is not, never has been and never will be good enough. Champ 1 player at best. The only reason he is still playing for Widnes is because he’s from Widnes.

Obviously the club should aim to retain the best players, but offering one-year contracts isn’t the way to do so. If Widnes offer you one-year and you get an offer of two-years from Oldham, what are you taking?

At least Oldham will be pushing for promotion next year, whereas Widnes will looking at a play off push at best.

I agree re Lyons but re contracts I think we are terrified after craven and Owens were given longer contacts and have hardly been value for money so I think they're been cautious probably over cautious as our board often are

@vikingfox71 Caution is understandable, but if you don’t buy any properties on the Monopoly board you’ll be out of the game pretty quick.

Widnes are treading water. There’s no long term goal, there’s no short term goal. It’s just a rolling exercise which will likely get worse year on year. It’s up to the fans to keep turning up if they’re happy with the reality of this. If not, it’s game over.

Tbh that has been pretty much what Widnes has done since 1895!

Apart from a period of borrowed 'wealth', courtesy of SOC and that didn't end well.

The burst of support from the wider town to save the club, plus the VIQI long term subscribers maybe gives hope for the future. WVIPs still retains some support transferred from VIQI and that may grow as the country's economy improves.

Salford have apparently started a share option for spectators and we could possibly follow that route.

Other than that its down to the faithful to keep it up!
