Doncaster game

Firstly I hope Jake is okay.

But how the fudge do we lose that game? We looked clueless absolutely poor in attack and so soft in defence.

Stupid penalty’s and play kept giving them free meters and as soon as they got on our line they looked like scoring, serious questions have to be asked about Coleman and his tactics now because we should never have lost that game, his players and his play.

1-17 was dreadful today that could possibly be the worst performance I have ever seen it’s embarrassing the players didn’t look arsed we made Doncaster look like world beaters and all they did is play the set and take the chance when it came unfortunately we were nowhere near, Patton very poor and we did no attacking kicks which apparently according to Coleman was Patton and Robert’s skill.

Totally agree about Jake - hope he is ok

Coleman’s time could be clocking - if you cannot beat 11 players with a full tam for 30 minutes, it starts to ask questions - gregson ?

patten ?
fleming ?
need to start looking now for next season

maybe If we get young roberts could be time for tom to go to crusaders

new 6 required

What to say after that???

11 v 13, you just do the basics, keep them away from your own 20 and play the long game. Oh no!! WTF was the pass from Patten to the wing? It was a terrible pass and if he just pops it Lawton he's running a good line. Gilmore just dabs that into the goal line and we get another 6. Then he gives away a penalty with a couple of minutes to go, I can't even comment on the tackle he misses in the first half for the Lynn try.

What did AC say to them at HT? totally brainless performance, worst for a long, long timer. No excuses.

@ringo-bells

it’s the same every week and after every halftime we go crunchie, Coleman hasn’t got a clue and it’s starting to become pretty obvious am all for trying to keep the same coach and build from it but am starting to ask the question is Coleman the right man?  This season would tell you otherwise constantly 2nd best and never competing or fighting to win look absolutely lost and so does he walking up and down the sideline he’s not got a clue.
Am sure he will pull some excuses out the bag this week tho.

Well quite simple if you cannot beat a team with 2 extra players for 30 minutes you are a pretty crap team

no ideas at all - patten is past it - Lawton was in for sure with a short pass

discipline in the second half was disgraceful

Back to square 1 I feel

I like Coleman and I don’t think the club have helped him with the lack of resources to go out and get players. But he has to be more than questioned after a performance like that.

That game summed up Coleman’s team’s attacking- they can’t. We’ve struggled to score points since he’s come. The complete lack of chances against 11 men is almost unbelievable.

He went and got Patton and it hasn’t worked one bit. Complete waste of money and his attitude stinks. 2 games ago we beat Toulouse by giving the ball to Lawton 10 metres out; today Patton did everything not to pass the ball to Lawton. That Hollywood ball he tried and ended up in touch summed him up. Don’t want him to wear the shirt again.

Got to get a performance next week otherwise the pressure really ramps up ahead of Sheffield.

Totally agree with the previous comments.

Really hope Jake is ok and recovers well,  very distressing to see.

I really don’t know how we lost that. But there is no leader on the field. Doncaster had two players who could hardly run on their left hand side late on in the game and we decided to go the other way.

I am doubting Coleman’s coaching ability too, surely he should be making the right substitutions and using the right tactics to beat 12 men.

Our defence was shocking today at times

It’s not about likeability. Coleman seems a decent bloke no doubt but performances have broadly been average to poor and he needs to be held to account. The two wins against Toulouse can now be seen outliers, very good performances that in no way represent the general level of mediocrity that has been the trademark  of the season. The recruitment situation has been shambolic for some time, and I would need educating by someone more in the know as to how much input Coleman has concerning recruitment policy, but regardless those responsible are doing a very poor job. Today’s result is a huge disappointment but, if we are being honest, not a huge surprise. And that’s the most damning thing of all.

Sickening moment with the injury and I wish JM well.

We actually did the hard work getting 16-14 up- game management from that point was non-existent. It beggared belief...how far do you blame the coach and how much you blame the players is a difficult question.

Doncaster were a horrible side to play against on a number of levels and we did not deal with them well.

All of their tries were preventable too.

We need to beat Hunslet, Batley and London at home and hope that's enough cos I can't see too many other wins elsewhere!

Think some of you are wrong about Patten, his kicks in the first half caused problems for the defence but they were moped up easily, and did try a forty twenty. Didn’t think Roberts did much at all but got man of the match, who picked it his brother!!! We needed a general to take us around the pitch not one man rugby, the crowd were screaming for the ball to go wide but it never went. Two scrums against 11 men and six in the scrum, Fozzard tries to dummy and go himself. A long game, glad when it ended😡😡

Crusaders dont want gilmore...why on earth would they want him?...crusaders are ticking along nicely at the mo...some fans on her still think its the 80's and widnes have clout...no longer...your results for years show you that...

I'm the opposite. I reckon the club have pulled out all the stops to help him.

@sinbad Like what?

We’ve got 22 of our own players. 7 of them were injured prior to today’s game. How many other teams who are chasing the play offs have 15 of their own fit players?

After the Batley game in round 3 the coach said we needed to recruit players. Since then the numbers in the squad has gone down, not up.

Look who we recruit from: Swinton, Whitehaven, Rochdale, Limoux etc. There’s a reason those players were playing for clubs like them, because they’re not very good. Do you not think Coleman would like to sign better quality of players? I think he would, but the budget doesn’t allow him to.

All that saying, I’m not saying Coleman is blameless. He signed Patton, which was a complete waste of money. He signed those youngsters in the off season and let them go at the start of the season. Poor recruitment decisions that were on him.

I think the club say they want play offs without actually backing it with a budget to achieve it.

I’d like to know what Coleman told the players at halftime. Did he say use the extra 2 men we’ve got and throw the ball around or did he say keep it tight, don’t make mistakes?

He doesn’t say in his after match interview what he said, and the kind interviewer doesn’t press him.

If it’s his fault for not telling them to throw it around he should hold his hands up and say it was . If it was the players fault for not following his instructions, then the worst offenders should be dropped for the Bradford game, and just play some young kids from amateur clubs, because we’ll probably get battered by Bradford anyway.

I also couldn’t believe he was praising Doncaster, saying how well they played, with 11 men and ran their blood to water and played for their badge. It’s a pity the Widnes players didn’t do the same, if they had, we’d have won.

Personally I thought Coleman’s post match was a joke, he loves to play the down in the dumps and feel sorry for us card, the maizen incident aside he should’ve been furious with the way we played and how we managed the game from his coaching performance and the players performance he should’ve fronted up yet he congratulated Dons who played like they had the man advantage and then goes on about getting fans back in… Is he taking the piss who is going to pay to watch that shower of shite no effort no commitment just embarrassment.
