I wonder if those now criticising Finnegan’s ability as a coach, the players commitment and fitness, the qualifications of the CEO and the ability of the board to manage the club, after two games and one loss, will give them some credit if we happen to win our next five games? Just a thought.
Frank I admire your optimistic outlook ,the two games one loss statement even makes the pitiful draw against Newcastle sound like a positive.
Do you honestly see us winning all of our next 5 games . Given our current form I would be delighted with 3 but settle for 2 wins . Anything less than that , and I fear it could be, then we are in serious danger of relegation .
The Vicar
The fixtures for reference (assuming Toulouse away does not take place)
Batley (A)
Swinton (H)
York (H)
Whitehaven (H)
Oldham (A)
I would be very impressed if we won all five and am in agreement that if we can’t win at least three of them the outlook for the season is poor.
To be honest, I looked at Dewsbury (H), Batley (A) and Swinton (H) and anything less than three wins would be a worry...
I agree but that ship has now sailed. One point from the first two games is clearly a very bad start by any reckoning. Hopefully we can show it to be a blip and not the level we are going to keep performing to.

No I don't see five wins and agree we were lucky to get a draw against Newcastle, which was definitely not a positive. If the team plays like it did in the Dewsbury game, we may be lucky to win one or two games. With my rose-tinted glasses on and fingers crossed, I am hoping for a distinct improvement with hard fought wins against Batley and Swinton. These games will show whether the team and the manager can turn things around and set us up for the York game. I would then expect (and hope) for wins against Whitehaven and Oldham.
So could we win all five games - yes, a possibility, but we could equally lose all five games without the improvement needed in the team.
I think that the point that I was trying to make was that after two league games, some are damning the board, the coach and the players. Would these same complainers - including the perennial complainers - give credit for coming back from a disastrous start to the season?
Frank, the writing was on the wall before a ball was touched. A silent, skint board, a paper thin squad, couple that with a complete novice as a coach and it’s a recipe for disaster. I would love nothing more than us to go the rest of the season unbeaten, but from what I and many others have seen, is a team that simply isn’t fit, don’t look well coached and do not look like the can be arsed to tackle.
At least with Farnworth back we should have some aggression in the middle. I would hope that we start by completing a few sets, just simple Dewsbury-like stability, until we have settled down.
We should also have something like the same squad on the field, though Jack may be missing.
I think you could expect some weird results due to the time off: but the sheer haplessness of the performances in the last 15 v Newcastle and for 80 against Dewsbury are what concerns the most!
If things improve, credit to the players, coach et al.
But there is also a difference between improving to finish say 9th or 10th and then improving to finish Top 6...

Looking at the predictions on here, not many envisaged anything but relatively easy victories against Newcastle and Dewsbury. Which experienced coaches were available when Finnegan was appointed? How many years coaching experience did Watson have when he took over Salford and he didn't do too bad? Finnegan had a decent playing career and some coaching experience at TWP and Newcastle. I would have preferred that we had come into the season with Sheens, but that did not happen. It is too soon to judge Finnegan after two disappointing (embarrassing) league performances and a hammering by a low end SL team. At least give him the opportunity to turn things around and judge him then, but that may be sooner rather than later if the current standard of performances continue.
I have no issue with the Board or Chief Executive. We are told that money is available to sign players, if someone becomes available and the use of loans was always on the cards. If we had brought back the likes of the Chapelhows, this would have been criticised. Who has become available that was prepared to accept a part-time contract, who you would have tried to sign? Do you know whether or not, we have tried to sign more players?
I agree with you that there is a serious issue with the team based on the Dewsbury performance and a major improvement is needed to get any kind of result at Batley. You never know with a few wins under our belt, you might just make a positive comment about the club. If there is no improvement, I might just remove my rose-tinted glasses and agree with you.
It will be interesting to see the predictions for the Batley game. I predict a close fought win, perhaps more in hope than expectation!
Frank, I, like you can only comment on what we’ve seen, and all I have seen are quite frankly (no pun intended) utterly shambolic. As I have said and I still stand by my points, the players look completely unfit, devoid of any coaching and a coach that looks a beaten man already. If there is money to spend on players, no doubt it’ll be our CEO who has a say on who comes in and with his track record............
So far wwr ignore as level below, Whitehaven good as same league
newcastle threw the game away
salfraud no comment
dewsbury absolutely no idea what happened there
wait and see for the next few games, doubt a win at batley but that would be nice
beat swinton as in mire like us
oldham - if we lose that give up
It’s the inability to tackle and poor defence that is the major concern

How many times did Dews have on our line? They just have scored 75% of the time they had spent on our line. So weak and sluggish.
The key to winning a game is completing your sets, I think I read recently an Aussie team did 40 out of 40 or something like that
what was ours - 4 out of 20 ?
