@dan1 Agreed it’s alot of money to spend on a below average squad and to be fair that’s probably not the boards fault that sits with Coleman he’s nearly had 3 years now this is entirely his squad and his players he signs boring players who fit into his boring playing system. This has to be Coleman’s last chance if not improvement by the end of the year it’s time to go and give someone else a crack.
This is year 3 in our 5 year plan does anybody think we are any further along than when we started
with the exception of Tim and Rolty who are both pulling up trees we seem to be stagnant
I think the appointment of Tim and Rolty has been good and a breath of fresh air. However I must say previous off field recruitment has been poor, so you would have to put that at the hands of the board.
I dont think you can put on field performance all on Coleman as he's in his 3rd season but it's our 8th season in the Championship and no one else has done any better. However the playing style is too conservative, it suits teams struggling at the bottom of the table like Swinton for example so it makes sense. We very rarely blow teams away. This season we have had narrow wins vs Workington, Hunslet and Crusaders who are basically League 1 teams.
In terms of the 5 year plan, we dont actually know any specific detail, targets, milstones which as stakeholders is a bit odd. But the club have said under the new criteria the gap between the bottom of SL and the top of the Championship is now wider than ever. Thats mostly down to the RFL so out of the clubs hands to a large extent, but if you look at crowds and on field performance we havent progressed. I think thats not a negative statement, its fair. They also said revenue was down for the 2025 season on previous years. Investment wise we don't know the ins and outs but again I think its fair to say so far we havent secured investment on the scale needed to propel us into SL like London, Wakrfield and Leigh. The stadium is a worry but could that be the thing that actually makes us more attractive for investment as a deal could potentially be brokered for the club and stadium, that may be a pipe dream, but we can always live in hope!!
In terms of todays game, I feel we have to get a win.
Sorry i might have seemed harsh and I have lost my mojo a little with frustration. As Scouse Viking stated over 500k on players who come mid table is not good enough? So the coach has to be accountable for his recruitment with too many back rowers and not enough grunt in props. The year before was over loaded with wingers now lack props and never signed a decent running halfback. At the moment lost faith in the RFL closing shop with this IMG wotsits to suit the expansion teams, but not care about heartland clubs who will bring decent away support. I know the board are trying and i just do not see light at the end of the tunnel. I hope we win today I just feel annoyed with the lack of progress on the pitch which is the most important thing. All this hard work from Tim Holmes, Twinny and Rolt will go to pot unless something changes. No good having all these events for kids before a game if the product at the main event is piss poor. I got to admit not happy with Coleman as the coach, but I wonder who is better is the problem.
I’m astounded that our bill is 575k but that’s what certain clubs in this division have drove with their daft salaries being offered about.
majority of ours I’d imagine will be going to
Owens, Gilly, Johnstone, Foz, McWhirter, Abdull, Murray, Langtree, Connell
that’s probably about 200k-250k there if there on anything between 20-30k.
id heard that houghton was offered 10k by Salford but we offered better so he came here. Can’t even get a game but is earning over 10k a year
Well Abdull & Edge in the team but our pack is woefully small. I cannot understand having Lawton as 18th man if fit & no Chapelhow., who .ust have picked up a knock? At least Houghton is on the bench. I think we will just scrape home but it will not be easy.
I'm having trouble logging on to the game, radio merseyside, does anyone else have a problem?
Anyone got radio commentary yet? Link on BBC Sport just static and the occasional muffled weird noises… good old BBC…
See above! My reception is the same as yours. All the other games are reporting OK, just ours isn't.
Come on, Radio Merseyside, sort yourselves out...
2 min pen to Widnes, Connell taken In the air
Butt is the next player to be taken high, Vikings kick to touch again
@johnnyboy Yes I am also not picking up the transmission.
