A vital addition imo.

Fitness and conditioning are a massively important in keeping the team on the field throughout the season. Always gave of his best iirc and one of those who 'stuck' when times were bad.

Welcome back Bob!!!

Wow! That's a blast from the past.

I remember during the 1st incarnation of the message board, Bob's then girlfriend, Lauren Waterworth (minor celebrity here in Wigan - think she had a song in the UK Top 40 once) used to post on here under a pseudonym.

She didn't like it when her beloved Bob got stick from the fans 🤣🤣🤣

I'm pretty sure they ended up getting married.

Good to see Bob Beswick back.

Curious about this Performance Manager role, not criticising just not sure what it really means; is it a DoR type role or what?

I'm not one for these kind of roles myself. Performance manager, director of rugby etc.Waste of money to me, especially for a non SL club. But good luck to him and BB.

@sinbad

Agree about being uncertain about these kind of roles, especially when you get a load of vacuous statements about alignment and strategy yawn yawn.

At the end of the day, if it leads to better results on the pitch then fair play though!!

My view is that both changes should be welcomed. Bob Beswick has a wealth of experience and has gained qualifications to make him suitable for this role. A great addition to the back-room staff.

Ryan O'Brien's experience and qualifications make his appointment to work alongside Simon Finnegan, a positive move.

Hopefully, these appointments will see a vast improvement in the fitness and performance of the team in 2022.

Well done Widnes.

Both changes should be welcomed as long as they don't take funds away from the playing squad. That is the number one priority. Some short memories on here.

I think having a s&c coach is needed not sure about the other position is really needed? Maybe it ticks a box for future requirements

Ryan O’Brien has been promoted within the club rather than brought in as an additional staff member so I doubt it is costing us fortunes.

I think bringing Bob Beswick in will prove to be a good move. His long-term injury-free playing career indicates that he can look after his body, our youngish squad I hope will respond well to his methods.

Great appointment that, no doubt funds will have been taken from player recruitment to get him onboard but hopefully having Bob will keep more lads on the field next year

I cannot see a full time role for a strength and conditioning coach at a part time club. I could understand someone coming in pre season and giving individual plans to players but we only train together for a few hours per week so it is down to the players to put in the hard work in their own time.

Promotion equates to a pay rise and his old position needs filling so unsure of the no cost scenario.

Is it a full time role ? there should be no full time roles in a part time set up from players up to the CEO.
