Amateur Game

I no longer live in Widnes but I was shocked to hear that the town only has two open age teams currently? Other town has also seen a step decline.

What is going on?

the clowns at the RFL

you look after the grass roots and it grows, cut funding off or flow rates so pro clubs below SL cannot invest in their community clubs

Instead They trumpet the crowds at the ashes series - not sure how much will be made on that, but all welcome

simple really, but the game is run by simpletons

Not even sure if this is a story any more given that the game has been mis-managed for more than a generation.

Seemingly, there is no money to invest in the grass roots of the sport, yet (even as we speak) more (average waste of time and money) overseas SL signings have been announced!

To what end I ask myself?

You couldn't make it up!

Going back to 1995-96, it should have been written into the RL Constitution, that x% of central funding monies annually should be given to the long term development of the amateur game along with a clear plan for producing our own players and the future of the Sport.

I bet Australia don't employ this back of a fag packet approach to the NRL!!

The solutions to solving the games problems are easy to resolve. But they are not popular which is why the answers will never see the light of day.
