Can anyone who has watched the Newcastle game comment on Lawton's red card. I recall him hitting the player high but only cos he slipped before Lawton tackled him, in SL players have been given as red card as sufficient punishment for similar offences. Would be nice to hear from someone who has watched it back and if it was just unfortunate should we appeal the ban ?.

I watched it but it happened so fast and the camera is miles away so not the best, it’s also difficult to move back the picture; however. The player seems to sidestep as Lawton is going across the pitch and, and it’s only my opinion but he does seem to buckle as he approaches, non intentional would of been my assessment but he stays down which always makes it worse.

Kear has said that the club is challenging the "grading."

I was at the game with a good view of the incident, and the Newcastle player did slip - his feet went from under him as he tried to side-step Lawton and was on his way down as they collided.

Thanks for the freeze frame.

Lawton is actually crouching to the slipping Newcastle player.

Surely a sending off sufficient!!

You can see that the Newcastle player is on his knees at the point of contact.

You’d have to be an idiot to believe this was an intentional attack to the head. Yet the RL disciplinary have seen fit to impose a two match ban. Very, very disappointing.

I’m assuming the review panel will have another look at this one and hopefully retract the 2 match ban

Refereeing it’s a difficult and thankless task. Player safety is paramount. But the key thing is consistency. You cannot compare Lawton’s “high tackle” with Pauli’s. The video gets watched by the MRP and they slap a two game ban on Lawton. Pauli, nothing, just because a different ref made a different decision in the moment. Surely the time to review, rewatch and discuss is the only opportunity to be consistent with the application of the rules, for fairness and safety.

Adams appeal will be heard tonight. Let’s all hope that common sense will be shown by the panel after they review the TV footage

Disappointing. I’m not sure how the appeals process works. Wouldn’t the match review panel have watched all the footage in the first place when they gave the two game ban? There’s no further evidence is there so they aren’t likely to change their mind. Also, what are the implications of a club appealing? If there aren’t any wouldn’t every club appeal every ban?

I don’t think there will be any implications for a failed appeal. If appeals are considered unjustified or frivolous then the bans can be increased so clubs aren’t going to constantly challenge decisions.
