Think today was a massive reality check and completely emphasised the reality that if the 2023 squad is made up of more than half of this seasons squad we are in massive trouble . ...few wins against dire opposition has papered over the obvious cracks ....with restructure around the corner it's vital were in that play off mix next season and to do that were gonna need a huge overhaul in playing staff....this squad is a billion miles off it as we stand..die hards can drivel whatever nonsense they want but unless there's a huge turnover in players we've got no chance...teams that are above us right now are going to recruit big time ...in fact having spoken to the barrow chairman tonight there not sitting on their laurels and he's stated they've got 4 coming in next season already done ..bearing the fact we're light years off barrow we need probably at least 8 or 9 ...there's zero sentiment in sport it's time to be ruthless and cut cloth accordingly...anyone that thinks most of this squad should be kept on are clearly beyond deluded and happy tinkering with league one and inevitable oblivion

Not feasible,12 players out and 12 players of better quality,in.Where will they come from ? Why would they sign for Widnes ? We wanted a good coach and now we've got one.His honeymoon period is almost over and next year he has to deliver what we brought him here for-to get results. And he'll have to do that with the squad at his disposal.Barrow are a good example. They were in the third division this time last year but I don't accept,on paper and comparing squads, they are light years ahead of us.

As a long standing, season ticket holding die hard, let me spout some more nonsense.

Under JK our team has vastly improved. We should have won yesterday but didn’t show anything like the concentration and effort that has been on show recently.

Our experienced coach has identified what he thought went wrong in the Sheffield game and confirmed there will be some of the squad leaving and some recruitment. We don’t have a lot of money to splash out but I bet JK has already made up his mind who we need and can afford.

Sheffield weren’t head and shoulders above us, they played safety first, basic rugby league and we didn’t.

There will surely be at least half a dozen new signings. I don't think JK would come here without the assurance that numerous signings would be made.

Of equal importance to me is that some of the existing senior players have consistently good runs of form rather than the inconsistency we have seen.

Just wondering who these 'top end' championship players are and why they'd want to come to mid table strugglers,Widnes.

Rumoured signings from here which seem to have some possibility: Gilmore, Johnstone, Walker, Ward.

Gilmore has played well for Batley who have finished above us by some distance 2 years running, but was up and down when he was here.

Johnstone has got the best part of 100 SL games under his belt and was good as the sole hooker in 2019, if he rotates with Fozard, that will be a much improved situation.

Walker is obviously a Kear player but looks a little on the heavy side, nothing a good pre-season with Beswick couldn't sort.

Ward has looked good when I've seen him play against us for Batley, but that's probably 4 or 5 matches tops...

We need a good season from the likes of Craven and Owens, then the spine of the team looks a lot better.

I agree probably several players will need to leave as just not good enough.  Players like Tilleke,  Spedding,  Lyons, Davies,  Brown,  Field,  Gregory and Grady not good enough. We can't just rid of 14 players but if get rid of about 9 players it more realistic. Then pay the wages for quality. Any wanting part time from Leigh be nice.

I agree more or less with Cumbria Viking on who should leave but that would be in an ideal world. However I think some on here are still being over optimistic  including Cumbria Viking on what in reality we will be able to do as regards strengthening the squad & what Kear will be able to achieve. We do not have that much money & the top players will go to the top 6 or so clubs in this Championship as they will see brighter prospects there. I cannot see us releasing more than 9 players maximum. I  think it is a good job long term that we have returned to only beating the bottom 4 or so clubs. I say that because Kear & the directors are left under no illusion as to how good the current squad is. They will still be limited by finances but at least know as many changes as possible are required. We did improve under Kear but it was when we had nearly a full squad fit & when we were playing the poorer sides. We only won some of those games by a few points too. Let us face it we in the recent period  we only beat Batley that was unexpected & they lost to London yesterday & the only other good win was against Halifax away on a mud bath that could have gone either way. With limited funds I would hope the majority of the money will go on the pack & include at least 3 new physically big props & 2 big second rowers. if they can be found.

I am sure we will strengthen the squad for next year but it will financially  necessarily  be limited. Am I hopeful? You bet I am but I lke to think I am realistic.

Who needs to wake up Cumbria Viking? The club? Die hards as you call them? What the fudge is a die hard anyway? Season ticket holder? Season ticket holder who goes all the away games? Half the away games? Pays for every home game on the day?.

NIce name drop with speaking to the barrow chairman by the way 😂..

Anyway on to the main drivel of your post.. The club knows they fucked up giving turnip finningan the head coach role.. let's not get to moist about it we may be a billion miles off Leigh.. but not the rest.. the club and kear know we need to sort the recruitment out with increasing the budget and getting better player's in.. with a strong rumour of a re- structure in 2024 it's a crucial season 2023.

Calm down lake District boy all will be fine I'm sure 😁

Stop talking sense FC you know it’s not what some on here want to hear. 😂😂

our recruitment this year wasn’t too bad just the coach that wasn’t up to it. We lost by twelve points yesterday dropped ball, try in first half and converted, dropped ball, try  and converted second half and to make things worse; free kick while in position, extra two. We were yesterday up against a well drilled side that played simple, safe rugby that’s all. We lost the game not they won handsomely

@delta-machine lake district boy 🤣 gonna assume your about 6...mentally at least....I'll draw it in crayon for you ...die hards are people that accept mediocre performances and players and will defend them to the hilt ...point of barrow is as of now there stronger than us..with said recruitment they'll be even further ahead ...to close that gap we need major surgery ....every single club are going to recruit heavily with restructuring imminent ....our squads full of has beens or not good enough ...FACTS ....dont like it don't care lad
