With us playing Friday night I went to the game today as it was only £4 entry. Thatto Heath by far the better side in terms of size/strength and speed winning 78 - 10.

McKenzie Buckley who signed for us last season from Saints was playing 2nd row for them. But the 2 that stood out were number 11 Jamie Holroyd and number 10 Kye Siyani. I dont follow the amateur game so much anymore but googled them and Holroyd is actually from Widnes and was at Widnes academy. Siyani was at Saints academy.

I dont know if they would be interested in playing semi pro or not but Holroyd in particular would do a job for us 100%

I guess we will get another look at them in a couple of weeks. I obviously expect us to win, but I think they will give us a decent game especially for the first 40 mins.

Watched the game myself ...holroyd was very impressive ..looks a bit body aswel ...they'll be a bit of a handful early on but I'm still confident of a big win assuming we take it seriously

@cumbria-viking yes looked about 6"4 or 6"5 from pitch side. Think he's 21/22 years old.

@dan1 bearing in mind the gaffer shouts that he'd like to give opportunities to players from the community game I'd say he was worth an invite for a trial period...hard to judge completely on the back of that opposition but if he shows up well against us I'd say it was worth the offer

I watched some of the game and agree Holroyd was the standout and looked as though he would be worth an opportunity if he was interested.

With the game tickets now sold out and the game to be shown on YouTube, I noticed that Thatto Heath have shared the link but said that there is a small subscription charge which doesn’t seem to be mentioned on similar Widnes posts.

Does none know if there is? Don’t mind paying a little something, but don’t want to leave it to last minute.

Hey Steve, found the link but not noticed anything regarding a subscription, maybe others will be better suited checking

@steve it's on the clubs YouTube channel ...don't think you can charge via your own channel...if it was through lounges TV or something like that there would have been

Credit where credit's due, I believe Widnes have been really helpful to Thatto with this.

And the Game is being shown on the WV YouTube channel so we get the SM hits towards IMG points.

This game could be a banana skin for Widnes. From what people have said, Thatto Heath will be no pushovers and their players will be pumped up to cause an upset, especially on their home turf.

I am sure Coleman will not allow the players to be complacent and of the need to approach this game as they would if they were facing another Championship or SL Club.

I expect Thatto Heath to put up a good show, but Widnes should be too strong for them.

If we lose or struggle to a narrow win, I expect this forum to implode!!!

@frankg Never mind people on here wanting Tom Dick and Harry to get some game time you have to play your strongest team available. The season is 1 game old and the regulars need the game time more than the tail enders.

@frankg Whilst I do expect a decent amateur team to put up a strong performance in the CC, which would be a great spectacle for their own fans we should, as has been said, inevitably be too strong and fitter than them.  If we do not win this game, it will not bode well for the season........#COYV!

Perfect game for Connell to come in and show what  he can do, if you go what others say by playing your strongest team, he may never get a game, and released without playing as we had a few last season

hopefully Lawton and langtree back in the squad

looking forward to a decent game and a comfortable win
