What makes people automatically think the pub would be for sale, even if Widnes could magically made a load of money appear? It baffles me that this seems to get suggested every year, but Leggies wouldn't want to sell up.

Just because it might be good for the club doesn't mean others will give up a business for that reason.

Exactly. The Bowler isn't up for sale and even if it was then a club who were behind last week with their coach travel payments would be in no position to buy property.

😂😂

I do not mind options and solutions to be honest even if it will never happen. Not owning the stadium does not help us and especially with the Council giving us fudge all.

@torn-sock-1 god guys thought I was negative !! The bowler is a members club so you pay the members to buy it they get the money now I don't know how many members it has but not many and the other year lost money so if a offer was made it has a fair chance

if we stay as we are as salford has shown even with super league money it's a slow death we can't buy the stadium we haven't a rich backer so things like this are our only ways forward

and about financing it yearly ...would it cost more than signing 4 players you are not going to play for a season plus hopefully make money ! It's a idea , it's a forum if we stay as we are and continue to only get percentage of everything in stadium we slowly fade as we have seen last couple of seasons, not opening all north stand etc we have to pool our ideas to find a solution or move with the football when they go and leave the stadium to the council ?

How much would the bowler cost to buy? Is it something the WVIP’s would consider donating towards the cost of purchase

The bowler will never be sold to anybody.

Not specifically aimed at you, as there are a few comments on the thread, but...

Why would they? There are 10's of thousands of people living in the area. About 3k go the games and 57k (Or whatever number don't). Why would the council spend loads of money giving Widnes a great deal or giving away assets/revenue streams when they're struggling to balance budgets and fund services? Why would they fund 'for the few, not the many', on a non vital service/product/business/club?!

Imagine someone's family member being denied some sort of care or something really important, just after the council announced a sweetheart deal with WVRLFC. There'd be an uproar.

Does anyone think Everton/Liverpool or any other sports club should get a load of money off the council? I don't have a problem with suggestions for the club, but they need to be realistic with the rose coloured glasses off.

Might as well just say I think Halton Council should give Widnes £1m to fund buying an NRL player so they can become more competitive & attract bigger crowds. Almost the same thing.

Not sure why so many fans think they are owed something (Either by the council or local businesses) as if everyone has the same viewpoint on the club as them. Truly mind boggling.

We are where we are a little club that has no assets. They cannot even man the telephones so maybe the real picture is to get the club run efficiently before anything else. It is not just Anthony's looking for payment the club has not honored the golden gamble winners, how do i know that?.

We should be tapping into 128000 people if count Runcorn too. Personally due to the Bridge and the gap between the Towns it will be more difficult. But I do think we should tap into Runcorn even if get a few hundred of the 62000 people by going into the schools and giving some free tickets. Some ideas may seem ridiculous, but I do prefer solutions to try and get more people to the games or we stand still and fail. Entrepreneurs are always looking for ideas and solutions, but better to try mate. Anyway enjoy the next Widnes rugby match you go too. 💪👍

Maybe Anthony's Travel don't like some other Coach Co. giving the Club a better deal, and have seen their arses, who knows? As a Club 'partner' they shouldn't be putting posts on SM, re; any arrears. For whatever reasons this situation has arisen, it should have been settled behind closed doors. It's not a good look for both parties.

Yeah I thought the post was unprofessional and should have sorted behind closed doors.

but that's all correct the council don't owe us anything or the 3k that go the games

but.......

the council got grants for the stadium as a community facility do you remember the hairdressers ,gym ,cafe ,social club , where have all those gone so the stadium was for far more than 3k is was for the community of Widnes ,schools have held events there but what happens now ? It's used for office space no gym ,hairdresser, cafe so the council have also reneged on their part of the stadium that they got the grants for so as a community stadium it's in everyone interest to be successful it's not Widnes Rl that got rid of those

the football is trying to leave maybe it's time to rid ourselves of the stadium as unless we own it the size and cost go against us

@pauliewalnuts Agree it's looks bad for both parties involved Pailie, but we don't know how many times they have asked for the money and been ignored or conversely it could be an oversight by an individual at the club and the board may not even be aware of it.

Don't forget that running a stadium does incur a cost in cleaning, repair, management, up dating etc etc,

A major part of the case to build the stadium in the first place was to give Widnes publicity in the race to attract prospective businesses and employers to the Borough.

At that stage Widnes on regular TV was an advertising bonus. In today's UK Councils are cash strapped to a major degree making favourable deals for sports clubs a hard ask!!!!!
