But even twenty percent of wages is cash going out with none coming in through the turnstile.

Only from next month though. But yes the club will then have to fund it. It will be interesting to see how the club will start engaging with fans and others.

It is the fans out of pocket not the club my sympathy is with people who need their cash back not the club. In effect the club has had their cake and are still eating it yet the fans are still paying for nothing.

It will be difficult for all Clubs to justify a full Season Ticket price next year.

I think its just one of those situations where each individual case needs to be respected....some people will need the refund, others won't.

Its Catch 22 to an extent for the club because the only way forward is to keep good Season Ticket and VIQI numbers.

The worst thing for Widnes would be to get in debt after the good work of the last 18 months.

Not sure I agree Mick. There will still be a lot of cost to the club even though staff are furloughed. For instance, employers still have to pay staff holidays at their full rate of pay, not furlough rate, and pension contributions. Insurances, including medical insurances will still need to be paid. HP payments still to be paid - company cars, IT equipment. Website fees. There’s probably more but I’ve made my point.

The club has had most of their main revenue. season ticket money and VIQI plus central funding and with the majority of staff furloughed for six months, no ground rent, travel expenses to away games etc etc it more than makes up for lost revenue by walk up on the day fans. Just in case you missed my point.

I've recently been made Redundant, so am not sure what to do.

I'd love to donate the money to the Club, but I also have a Mortgage to pay!

The timing of the Furlough works out well from a rugby league perspective as the scheme runs until the end of October, but the RL season finishes in October as well. So players train in November and December without any games. The club will have to pay 10% in September and 20% in October but they will have a lot of season ticket money that they have thus far have not had to use as the government has been picking up the squads wages. The worry for the club was how many people would require a refund due to personal circumstances, I guess they will have a fair idea by now.

I am a bit disappointed by the lack of information from VIQI as I have been paying £15 a month all year, but haven't had any updates.

The other good thing is Widnes don't have to pay for stadium maintenance and have secured a rent holiday, so although not ideal by any means, with the rent holiday, a fairly large number of season ticket holders donating the money to the club and one would assume people still paying into VIQI we should hopefully be less worse off than many other clubs.

The squad can have a 3 month pre season November to January as furlough will then have ended, the problem could be a resurgence of cases over the Winter, as we need fans in stadiums from the beginning of February, also will fans have confidence to order season tickets before Christmas without any guarantee that fans will actually be allowed back into stadiums in time for kick off? Fingers crossed we can all return ready for kick off next year.

Not 'aimed' at anyone! Just common sense.

If you can afford to donate, as you and I have done then great, but redundancy can take away that option.

Looks like the majority are donating their season ticket money. That's a great response so far - and looks like the club are able to make plans for next season as a result.

You have to feel for the fans who are still paying monthly for something they will never use.

Why is that any different than for those who paid up front?
