All councils massively overspend on children's social care. It's because there is no social care act in place and successive governments keep ignoring the problem because it's too difficult and expensive. In the short-term that means that private care agencies have councils over a barrel when it comes to caring for SEND kids, charging extortionate amounts for care knowing that councils have no alternative.

Long story short, I guess it would mean that Widnes Vikings is well down the list of priority items to sort for HBC. As it should be to be honest.

Down the list, yes, but also important. If the Club are priced out of the stadium, then that would be a large loss in revenue for the Council coffers.

It's Widnes Vikings what put this town on the map, not the Municipal Building, not the Library, not the new Leisure Centre, etc.

I get that. But Halton is 120+k people of which about 3K tops are interested in rugby. It's like 2.5%. Are you putting the council tax up for the other 97.5%? Have a look at Lunts Heath Road, do you think these yahoos who are buying £750k houses are dying to be Widnes fans? As if. They probably don't even know what RL is.

I get what you’re saying, but I think you’re greatly underestimating the number of people who are interested in RL. When we were in SL we used to have about 5,000 watching us, plus a lot more that are interested in Widnes, but not enough to come to watch matches regularly. And quite a lot of fans went to watch them at Wembley in 2019.

Apart from Widnes Vikings, what do you think is more popular IN Widnes?

The Bradford Bulls vs Castleford game is being shown live on the BBC site. At HT Bulls are up 17 - 0, and have some very big lads in their side. We will do well to hold them, particularly on their small pitch.

On Bull's performance thus far, can't see us beating them.

good to see the championship is such a level playing field !
bradfraud obviously have money coming in but it would be great to see us turn them over (again) but doubtful on their junior sized pitch but at our place they may get aggro phobia

With all these thousands being interested but not attending, maybe they could think about joining WVIPs!!?

Estimates and guestimates don't work - remember Runcorn had a petition from 'supporters' telling the soccer team not to play in the stadium. Their weekly support amounted to 500!!!!!

Sunny I watched the game and Bradford are a good side but unsure if as good as Wakefield last season. They do have some big forwards and the wet weather and small pitch will help them. Bradford, Featherstone, York, Toulouse top 4 for me then some good teams competing below like Widnes Oldham and Sheffield. Sunny I thought Castleford looked poor for a Super league side and will struggle.

Sunny I was chatting to a few of my friends and I think the Pass it on Scheme  fir children would be better than WVIPS personally. If every season ticket holder bought one for £35 that could be another 1k kids who will bring a paying parent. The club will double it so that be 2k Season kids passes and potentially over doubling our crowds from last season. It won't happen but the more Pass it ons the potential to get new people in the club. There is nice areas like the Lunts Heath area, with rich parents who may come on the board for business. Speculate to accumulate as some of the old fans who have stayed away won't come back unless we are winning. To win we need money, or good sponsors to beat the other clubs for the best players.

I read your note several times, particularly concerning the benefits of the "Pass it on" ticket scheme.

BEGG has also been hustling me for a while to dig deep and pay for one.

On reflection, I agree with you both - I now give in and have just bought one.... 🤗

Sunny good work and I hope you enjoy the new rugby season. It will be interesting how many Pas it Ons sold but I do see the future with the kids and the community work which the club need to do more to keep up with the other clubs. 💪👍 It seems like quite a few clubs have improved like York and Oldham for example. To be fair since Hamilton has left I think we will improve further.

I suppose you could say there's 200 million people world wide who are interested in Manchester Utd but only 75000 attend their home games. The difference being their ground is full. When there's 12000 spare seats in a stadium that holds 14000 then that tells its own story.I've never known interest so low in the town.Hardly anyone talks about it or asks how did the Vikings get on.I went into a couple of town centre pubs last year when we played Bradford away in the cup and none of them were showing the game on TV and nobody seemed to care that it wasn't on or even know there was a game.

If I'm not driving the 70+ miles back home - I'll hold you to that....

It may be cheaper for you to buy another kids ticket.

Sad to be honest mate. The club need to go into schools and ask the questions how we get them interested, and engage more with folk in the Town.

I came to live in Widnes in 1984 for work reasons and stayed in the area until 2012. I’m born and bred in Manchester, was a football nut, and knew nothing about RL until I moved. Within a year or two I loved the game, had a season ticket at Naughton Park, went to plenty of away games and fully immersed myself in British and Australian RL culture. The point I’m making is that there are millions of untapped fans in Manchester and Liverpool who need awareness of the great game that is readily available to them. Not as an alternative to football but to go alongside. The RL need to focus PR drives on their own backyard. This remains the key growth area.

As for the Championship this season I see Fev, Bradford, Toulouse and Sheffield as the big hitters, although many more positive noises are coming out of London Broncos on the last week or two. I see they’ve signed Zac Bardsley Rowe and the younger Thewlis on dual reg from Warrington (which kind of puts our relationship with them in perspective) so maybe they’ll be more of a threat than seemed the case. Vikings, York and Oldham should be competitive too and the whole division should throw up good looking fixtures on a weekly basis. As fans we are being well served by Championship rugby.

Great Dane it is so competitive the Championship and has got stronger over the last few years. I think Zac Bardsley Rowe is a 2 week loan so still hopefully see him play for Widnes. I love a rich backer now but all we can do is support Alan Coleman the best we can mate.
