Props

A lot of clubs want props. Look at the mess Warrington are in with all their resource.

I just don't see any real options coming on the market. Need to find the best way to play Dupree, Farnworth, Doro and Baker who should be enough and get the best out of them, with Lawton, Wilde and Davies for back row.

We have got players that will work hard - but just need to stop trying to take on teams through the middle who will murder us. Use the fact they're mobile and get the ball outside.

@jdgsport what do we do f / when they are injured ? A lot of clubs may want props but how many of them have been in the situation for three seasons ?

@royston-vasey well, we had Chapelhow x2 and Moran who were allowed to leave and people were relatively content with that. The problem appears to be that people don't just want props, they want world beater props.

York must be paying Pauli Pauli a fortune to play in 10 minute bursts. Yet even they were hammered last week by Whitehaven, so it's surely not always as cut and dry as the size of the pack.

@jdgsport I’m not sure what’s wrong with people wanting world beaters to be honest, provided they can face up to reality. I think the problem is the lack of a coherent plan to make sure the positions are covered. This year, yet again, seems to be a usual mix of bad luck with injuries and press ganging back rowers into doing a job. Still it is what it is and we have to make the best of the situation I suppose.

Can't quite understand the mixing of the backs yesterday. Tyrer isn't a right centre!!! Presumably injury or illness has forced the issue.

We looked better early season because we were varying the attack via Fozzy, Craven and Brown, and weren't predictable. That seems to have been lost due to injury etc but we need to get that back.

We can't hammer teams up the middle enabling the opposition defence to contract into a solid wall, clever kicking and sharp support can confuse any defence and it should be our strength.

As James has said Wire have similar problems atm and they have world class half backs!!!!

Comparing us with York/Sheffield is interesting when you look at how long they have been building, without the hassle of administration. We are building but it will take longer than a couple of years.

The club quoted a four year plan - without a financial Godfather maybe it will be a six year plan? Whichever plan it is we are only on year 2!!!!!

I’ve been called many things over the years and survived, so at the risk of being named “bore of the season” let me repeat ….

Most teams in our position need plenty of props. They don’t need to be world class but they should be big and experienced at playing that position.

But if we haven’t got ‘em then it’s pretty obvious that you must adapt your game strategy and not try to burst through the middle of (a usually bigger) opposition.

Passionate Pascal would love 2 props, especially with Levy out for the season possibly. I am realistic and probably not many of quality available, but hopefully we are looking. 👌👍

We need to settle for quantity not quality we are just a mid table championship team and no quality would come here.

Disagree my old friend as I would not want you playing or an average Simms Cross prop forward. Possibly you need some passion and get your boots on. 😂👍

Changed your mind yet ? The proof is in the watching

May come out of retirement as fed up of the average prop. Mad Frenchy will smash it up the middle. Need to get you Pinkies

We're in massive trouble if Frenchy comes back to play Prop 😉

It's not just about signing big props, it's about aggression and heart. King Kurt was lucky if he was 5 foot 10 and 16 stone but nobody would ever have swapped him for an 18/19 stone Kelvin Skerratt. Andy Platt was another who was small by today's standards but who would you rather have in your team..Andy Platt at his peak or Alex Walmsley.

Barrie McDermott has it 100% when he says its a simple game and all you have to do is run then ball in harder and faster than your opponent and more often than not you will come out on top. We do not run in on defence and rarely run hard enough in attack to break any tackle. Give me an Eddie Battye  type before any of our props as despite his small size he actually looks like he is trying to break the tackle

Nobody could disagree with you TM when you say aggression and commitment is important but it’s certainly not everything.

When I was playing many, many years ago there were often coal miners (remember them??) in the forwards and believe me, based on my own (bitter and painful) experience, size does matter.

It’s a tad simplistic maybe but it’s basically an equation of weight and speed isn’t it? A 16 stone forward running it in full pelt will be more effective than an 18 stone bloke trundling it in. The problem we had on Sunday was York had some big forwards running it in hard and we didn’t handle it. We could ideally do with a couple more big forwards but the players we have need to step up and perform to their capability as well.
