Pretty sure he’s a centre/winger

not sure if he’s ever played FB for Whitehaven or Swinton

He was full back for Haven at Wakefield last weekend. Not sure if that's his regular position.

One news report calls him an outside back another a utility back.

According to the Whitehaven News RL section, 24/10/23, when he signed for 'Haven from Swinton

..." Joey can cover all of the back 5 positions. Even though his favoured position is in the centre he can do an equally good job at Full Back or on the Wing"...

It's not rocket science really is it?

Who knows what the promotion criteria will be by the time they have sorted out this year's results? You match your signings to the cash available at the end of the day.

Due to our financial state we have to improve slowly, signing players that AC knows, and can rely on, is one way of moving forward. I guess that we are trying to have our own squad that is strong enough without relying on yes/no/sometimes /maybe loans or dual reg. In extremes we may need them but you never know what you will get.

I, like many, were a bit disappointed when we signed the likes of Lloyd and Butt, but they, and others that were deemed to be 'below our standard' have been certainly as good, and on many occasions better than we have seen in Widnes colours since we dropped to the Championship.

Signing expensive ex SL players doesn't insure them against injury or poor performance level so honesty isn't a bad guide tbh.

Just as an aside Benyon is 31 yrs old, Dudson 35!!!!! Benyon might not be such a bad signing with chosen players around him.

I must admit that  Patton doesn't fill me with joy but we shall see. Certainly when AC stuck by Joey Lyons many were unhappy but how many were cheering when he caught that winger??? I certainly was!!!

Our team is more of a 'system' team that plays to a pattern rather than revolving around a 'star' and from the number of gash team selections we have had with Max Roberts, for instance, playing prop, second row or centre. it helps!!!

I am with you Sandgroper for me need a good squad of 26 which are our own players, and hopefully most are signed that are robust. One thing with Joey Lyons he is robust and improved under Coleman. At the moment nobody knows what the RFL will do next with the goal posts changing all the time. We haven't got a big benefactor, so if we can stay a consistent playoff team until this occurs. There is lack of interest due to this closed shop with IMG bollox, and if sky ever pull the plug we are in a sound position. Get the community involved and once got more WVIPS members and fans we can buy better players. Sometimes players from Super league let you down like Kyle Amor and once hit 35 you become slower and injuries take longer to recover.

Sounds like we are singing from the same hymn-sheet!

If we can stay self contained as far as possible and let the RF/SL etc sort themselves out we will do as well as can be expected.

The club is now focusing on local matters and rebuilding its standing in the community which must be a good thing and should be applauded.

I suspect that a few of us are uneasy about just where the game, as a 'national' sport, is going and that all hinges on funding and Sky. However we have very little influence on that so better to keep our powder dry and be ready if the game as a whole has to start again as a part time sport!
