With football about to discuss lengthening their half time interval to 30 minutes, I wondered if half time in Rugby League is still officially 10 minutes.
At Widnes matches for quite a few seasons now, it seems to last 15 minutes .
And we never seem to be able to start the game on time either.
starting on time seems to be a game wide problem not just a Widnes one haha
And we never seem to be able to start the game on time either.
Kicking off on time can also be an issue for us 😉
Covid protocol at a lot of Football Stadiums has meant H/T intervals have been unofficially 20 minutes for a while now.
However, the rumoured extension being talked about now is nothing to do with covid.
Football authorities want to go down the same route as Gridiron's Sooper Dooper Bowl, with star acts singing a few songs during the H/T break.
It may work in Gridiron because their game is stop / start anyway with players spending large amounts of time standing / sitting on the sideline ... it wouldn't work over here because our games are, by comparison, pretty frantic.
It may also increase the risk of muscle injuries due to the extra time in the dressing room.
Look forward to going to a game at Anfield in January when its a midweek and its minus 3 and we have a half hour half time 😱
15 max in both Football and RL; no practical reason for it to be longer IMO, except for the TV audience...
3pm kick offs have finished at 4.40 pm for years.
Another 'gimmick' that the sport can do without.
I guess that you don't think that it would add to the 'match day experience'? (Lol!)
No ones mentioned yet, if the RL half time interval is still officially 10 minutes or not.
If it is, is it the referees fault for not getting the teams back on the field after 10 minutes?
The fact that these discussions are even being mentioned merely adds to my frustration about the general state of RL.
People seem to want to tinker around the edges, but nobody wants to sort of the poor governance of the Sport.
Maybe they could begin with sorting out the poor quality of the product on the pitch.
That would be a start.
