Didn’t realise we were interested in him😂😂😂 Worst kept secret on the internet but glad we have him back.

Thought he was a decent player but some posters made his life a misery on here but has proved them wrong over the last few years. welcome back Tom👍👍

I hope he comes back home and plays his heart out for us, hopefully a few more signings in the forwards for him to play off

Beat me to it and for me 2 new centres, prop and a back Rower to assist Gilmore. Having a winning pack helps a half back and Gilmore always had a decent kicking game. Some good passes, and his last spell at Widnes always seemed a fragile player. Hopefully more durable as coming to his peak at 28.🥖🥖👍

@pascal

He managed the pack and the game against Fev .

Reminds me of the likes of Ford and Liam Finn, brains and someone else's brawn. Give him the pack and he'll be fine!!!!!

And before the moans start he isn't the central defender, that's not his job!!!

I personally will stand by my opinion that Gilmore at Widnes does not work.

it’s like here there’s some extra pressure because he’s a Widnes lad and he was built up by outside to be this next big thing when he was coming through the academy. At Batley there weren’t high expectations when he went there after a short Covid stint at Halifax.

I would love to be proved wrong I just don’t see it and it won’t be long before the headhunters are back out for him

I agree with ScouseViking, nice lad and half decent player with a solid pack in front of him. The look of the pack for this coming season does not look like the rough, tough, forward pack to play behind like he had at Batley.

He doesn't have pace to have a running game to open a game up and excite the crowd so that will be down to Craven.

Craven will probably pick up knocks and miss a lot of games due to his age (look at last year) so your half back combo will no doubt be Lyons and Gilmore for the majority of the season.

By the way, Batley had lads fighting to play last year, probably because they were all on a bonus system, no play no real pay! Its notable that we don't do the same, we have a contract system which is not bonus incentive, you could play half the games you played at Batley last year and still pick up more money this year 😎

Finney's job for the boys once again.

I presume that Kear must have had a say in any signing, including Gilmore, so describing it as “Finney’s Job for the boys” is ludicrous. Gilmore plays a key part in the Batley success this year and, hopefully, can do the same for us in 2023. No doubt if Gilmore struggles to hit form, it will be Finney’s fault, but if he plays a key role in improved performances in 2023, he will be Kear’s signing.

Gilmore is a product of the modern game with an emphasis on a kicking game. Personally, I would have preferred a fast running half-back or an experienced half-back in the mould of the likes of Sammutt, Brough or even Chase, but depends whether there are any around who we could sign.

@frankg Sammut is available after leaving Barrow they reckon he'll end up at Keighley.

@scouseviking55

The headhunters on here will be back out for him whether he plays well or not.

I'd like to give him chance to prove the doubters wrong, but my gut feeling is that it is an uninspiring signing. I know Matty Smith is long in the tooth but he has won a multitude of top honours in his career, for us to to go from him, even past his best, to Tom Gilmore isn't a prospect that excites me I am afraid.

@ringo-bells There are a few posters who will always be negative towards the Club, whatever they do. That is their choice. According to some posters, we have signed Gilmore, who is uninspiring; Amor, who is too old; and Walker, who is overweight and unfit! Even Kear was considered too old when he was announced.

I agree, give them all a chance before writing them off. You never know, as we head towards the play-offs in 2023, they may all be lauded as top class signings, but maybe not by all.
