Super League side Warrington Wolves have cancelled the contract of centre Anthony Gelling by mutual consent.

Gelling, who has also played for Wigan, joined Wire from Championship side Widnes Vikings before the 2020 season.

The Cook Islands back, 30, scored seven tries in 13 appearances in all competitions for Warrington.

"The club would like to thank Anthony for his efforts at the Wire and wish him well in the next chapter of his career," a club statement said.

During his time with Warrington, Gelling was suspended by the club following an alleged incident involving his partner in February.

He was charged with assault in July at Warrington Magistrates' Court and denied a charge of grievous bodily harm before a trial date of May 21, 2021 was set at a further hearing at Liverpool Crown Court in August.

No. He's going back home anyway.

If James Rule was heading back to town and we wanted someone to give him a good slap, then Gelling would be a decent shout.

But to spend large parts of our stretched budget so we can get about seven decent performances out of him during next season, no thanks.

let him go back to Aus and see if he can find anything over there.

Has there ever been a more overrated player than Gells, take away his personality, what has he got?

His performances were inept and his off the field antics were appalling.

I can't think he would represent value for money. Also the priority would be another couple of good forwards.

No thanks, even though he did provide a few memorable on-field highlights. If I had to choose which one of our recent “naughty boys” I’d have back, it would be Rangi.

Wasn’t it true that he never helped the club do any promotional work?

We could employ him to make promotional videos for the club, he’d probably be better at doing that, than playing.

Not for me thanks, started well and downhill after that, I suppose his best contribution would be any transfer fee to dire and getting his wages off the books
