I seen the moorfield tigers had a training session at the stadium and I thought that was a great way for the club to involve the amateur club community. I don’t know who is organizing this but it’s important that the club builds on this and starts to bridge that gap. Maybe the club could organize for a friendly match before the first team games on match days like back in the day. I remember playing at half time at Naughton Park in front of a big crowd when I was at lunts heath lions when I was 6 or 7. Any more news about the cronton sixth form academy?

Yeah I played for Lunts Heath Lions too and at Naughton Park. 😂👍
Decent side played against Andy Farrell who played for Orrell.
Been said so many times, this is the way to involve the kids into widnes
also why not a warm up game of a Widnes knock out cup between the local amateur teams
How hard can it be to organize a friendly game before the first team games on a match day? Literally every age group at the local clubs would jump at the opportunity
The stadium was designed with four changing rooms to cater for two games etc - don't know if they have been retained though.

Anyone who went to the Cup match on Sunday in Colwyn Bay will confirm that the youngsters involved in the prematch games enjoyed it and were thrilled at the experience of playing there.
IMHO there must be quite a few likely to participate/support RL as they get older.
I’m sure there will be some amateur coaches who read this forum, maybe even consider contacting the club to see what would be involved in organizing this. I know it should come from the club but it seems something is missing.
What is missing is a pathway for Widnes Kids to play for Widnes.
At the moment any kid who wishes to play professional rugby league would be looking to join the Saints, Wigan, Warrington scholarship then Academy. There is no direct route to play Junior Rugby League in Widnes and then to gravitate to the Widnes first team.
Every kid (their parents & coaches) who plays on the Widnes pitch with ambitions to play professionally will know they have to aim to join a rival club.
We need to aim to set up the Cat 3 Academy asap and then offer this pathway as an option.
Maybe that should be the job of the community officer at the club? If we have one
Might be an idea of amateur ubs talking to Matt Taylor. Top fan and is very approachable person.
Is anyone on here a coach at one of the amateur clubs in widnes?
