Reality check

Now I am a half pint full chap ,with 2 ST tickets and donate to VIP  but recent games have made me ask a few questions

are we using games to sort our best line up ?
I know we had limited availability against Doncaster, but still beat them easily

but we lose to swinton and struggle against crusaders

i think we need a quality half back at least

i shall come to the barrow game, my usual 300 mile round trip, but to be honest if that is as bad as I expect that will be my last home game for a while

easier sat at home in my chariot !

I personally wouldn’t say 6 tries to 3 is a ‘struggle game’. Players hardly had to get out of 2nd gear for most of it whether people think they should of tried to be scoring 82 points in he degsy cup or not.

For context Sheffield only beat Doncaster by 4 points and midlands by the 2 points less than we beat NW today. They finished top 4 last year and have signed some more decent players in Mitch Clarke, Marty marsh and Eddie Battye. You reckon their fans are shitting it as well?

I listened to the game and I think we struggled to beat a lower league team couldn’t give a flying fox about Sheffield, only concerned with my team

and degsy cup or not that counts to points in the new regime

You could go on forever comparing results against the same opponents, means nothing.

Also for context Sheffield only had to win to qualify, could have put out a weak team - who knows ? And their massive crowds make the difference

The season has hardly started and most of our props are useless if playing Max Roberts at prop? Sam Brooks, Kirk, Field and Reilly all injured and not that great anyway. Then got Ant Walker and Tilleke, which doesn't give me confidence in the poor recruiting from Hamilton. Harvey Wilson looks decent and surprised he was 18th man.

Need a strike centre, few big props and a halfback which is every season.

If we can get Bullock regularly that would be a good start.

When Owens/Dixon comes back- I would be tempted to put Roby in at Half Back as he played there against Doncaster and give him a few games with Gilmore as I thought Roby looked pretty effective last week.

Roberts in the pack is a weird one- I remember Richard Varkulis had a good season as a converted prop circa 2010/11 but I'm not sure Roberts has the size for it.

I'm loathe to criticise the coach at this point- we have won 2 out of 3 and I thought we played well last week. But I wouldn't be shocked if we lost fairly comfortably at Odsal and expect bottom half in the league.

I will be going to the Bradford game, away at 12.30 on Sunday, even when it's free on the TV, sadly not my usual 300 yards round trip to a home game, but to be honest, if that is as bad as I expect that will be my last game until the next one.

Easier sat at home in my chariot, but it ain't 'Live' unless you are there!

Each to their own Ditton Donkey.

Credit where it's due, Crusaders played really well in the first 15 mins, were 10-0 up and knocked on under the sticks for 16-0. We went upfield and scored in the next set. We did seem to get hammered in the penalty count (not an excuse) 2nd half, but did just enough to win at ease. Best player on the field was NWC full-back Abel, and PAV is still playing well enough to justify another year. Can't understand why Wire's Wood played for them having been on DR here the other week?

I thought we was going for their Fullback. If we did a fresh younger player and could put Robey fullback. Hopefully can get Bullock for a season loan for some size.

Lucas Green you mean, rather than Wood!

Quite bizarre, given he was in pre-season training for four weeks.

Maybe he doesn’t like the setup at widnes and wants to play in league one for a season, how much do the players influence what teams they play on DR for

I think you play where you are told to play. The tail doesn't wag the dog in pro-RL.

Hence Max Roberts propping today. You play where the Coach thinks you will give the Team something that's missing. Sum of the parts etc.
