Don't agree with the new criteria but as has been said if winning the 1895 cup means points then we must go for it.
A game with Warrington was being lined up as part of the dual-reg agreement, though the delay to the fixtures has caused issues with that. Looks like Super League isn't starting now until mid-Feb, which could be three weeks after we start (with 1895 Cup starting end of Jan), so it's just whether a date can be sorted.
To be honest, as grim as it sounds, we could probably do with a game against Warrington to at least lift some spirits and interest (even if it would either be a heavy defeat or playing against their kids).
I did resolve to never go one again after a couple of miserable ones in successive seasons (I think 2016/2017), but you'd probably bite their hands off for a game like that now.
The big worry with friendlies is simply the chance of injury and against a much bigger side looking to impress that could be very real!
Iirc didn't Wigan used to run a 7's comp pre-season just to give the lads a run out or was that a summer thing?
I would think that there should be at least one friendly prior to the start of the 1895 competition. If it is to be against Warrington, it would be their reserves/younger players I guess.
This would not only give Coleman the opportunity to see his team in a "competitive" game, but would also give him the opportunity to see potential dual registration loans.
Workington at home,January 7.
I was told we are going to be playing Swinton as well. Don’t know if you’ve heard anything Spelly.

I've heard nowt mate, but as I mentioned earlier in the thread, we're (according to James) locking horns in the 1895, so I'd be surprised if there was a Chemics v Lions friendly prior to that.
Spelly.
@spelly perhaps the person who told me was getting mixed up with that, because as you say, I don’t think we’d play each other twice.
