I’ve just rewatched on YouTube, i am one to agree that Lawton is better suited on the edges when we have the ball but rewatching has me wondering if it’s a tactical decision playing him as prop especially defensively as he tended to get caught out when defending at 2nd row by the smaller players trying a step or changing of angle. Either by giving away multiple high shot pens (most by no fault of his own being so tall) or by not being able to change his feet quick enough.
9 times out of 10 props just run it in hard and true and defensively the big lad can hit and have that impact defensively
He can still be an attack weapon if he drifts a little in attack - he needs watching by the defence, and in numbers, making space elsewhere ( a bit like Big Jim)! All part of the options available to the move makers.
