It would have been interesting to know who the other shortlisted candidates were and their CV comparative to SF....

As much as Betts divides opinion here, he has extensive experience which I am sure SF leaned on.

SF does not have anyone here to play that role, maybe that would be something to look at....

However, there is more emphasis on PT players taking pride in their own fitness and performance standards, as you have them what, 6 hours a week? SF has certainly been let down there IMO.

Did Finnigan really do a good job at Newcastle? Losing to Oldham in the final for promotion seemed like a shock.

Not knowing what he had to work with etc it's hard to say, but they were happy enough to pay him!

Good point. It is all well and good calling for Finnegan's head, but who could we bring in now and who else did we have to choose from with more experience.  Same with the CEO post. Didn't Betts have extensive coaching experience and I guess James Rule was an eminently qualified CEO?

Widnes are currently advertising for a Digital and Creative Content Officer (whatever that is!!). They may be better looking for an addition to the coaching team. Do we have a fitness coach? If so, suggest James arranges an interview to get his opinion on the current fitness of the players.

We have experienced players on the pitch who should be showing some leadership. Surely they should be working with Finnegan, not against  him, if that is the case.  Anyone with this attitude should be told to go if they do not want to play for the club.

Our coach could not have been clearer in his interview at the end of the Batley game. He stated clearly and I agree with him that some of his players gave up when Batley scored their first try of the second half. The next stage would be to name them and hold them accountable. The fact is though those players have a contract and if we tell them to go or Finnegan drops them who do we play in their place. Where do we get players from. We went into the season with 26 players under contract short on numbers, short in key positions and short on quality and 3 games in we are unable to name a 21 man squad without borrowing 3 players from other clubs.

We appear to have gone into the season with the impression that nothing has changed and that Dual Reg still exists. Due to Covid protocols any  player that joins us on loan is unable to train (full time) with his parent club and is unavailable to play for his parent club.  The parent clubs are thinking of developing their own players not helping us. Thus any player they send us will not be in contention for a place in their team and must agree to part time training.

I think things will get worse before they get better and to get better we need new committed players. That means a relaxation of covid protocols dependent on the Government and the RFL. I don't think this will happen before June 22nd maybe not even then.

I totally agree about SF’s after match comments, he was fizzing, I loved the line, “I never made changes, because it wasn’t fair on the subs!” I think he was the cheap option, but I think Doug Laughton wouldn’t get a tune out of this shower. Our forwards are utterly useless, make no bones about it, we are up shite creek, without a paddle!

As a matter of interest, can you name the more expensive and experienced options who actually applied for the job? Is Finnegan paid less than any other coach in the Championship, if he is so cheap. I thought that he had two years coaching experience with Leigh, TWP and Newcastle.

Good evening Frank, unfortunately I can’t name names as no names were mentioned (understandably) by the club, but I am 99.9% sure that our heavily qualified CEO said there were a number of candidates that were interviewed for the job. Either way, from what me, you and everyone else has seen so far this year, performances are simply atrocious. Whoever chose Finnigan and these players should be held accountable, step forward Mr Phil Finney!
