Reading most of the messages on the forum board it astounds me of how much moaning and groaning there is regarding the coach, the squad, loan signings, matchday team, the club in general. We all need to understand we are not the club we used to be like we were in the 70's and 80's we don't have the same fan base we had then were we averaged 8000 a gate, you need to come in the real world that we are just a small town club

Heard these posts before and to be honest I would understand if said a team in Superleague. Come on Batley and Sheffield do better than us with 700 to 800 fans. We get 3 times that so we are a big club comparing other teams in the Championship. Bradford and Widnes are the teams with the biggest fan base in this league. So extra sales in merchandise etc. Explain how Sheffield and Batley do it on a shoe string? Complaining about the coach because not bought a halfback or prop which we needed mostly. 6 back rowers is not needed now. 🥖🥖🥖

We know it isn't the 1980s anymore but nobody expects us to be winning the title or the Challenge Cup.Not sure why this line still gets repeated.Of course we have no right to beat any team but you'd hope and even expect us to be putting up more of fight at this level. As said, there are smaller town clubs in SL and in this  division Featherstone has a population a quarter of Widnes.Batley is also a smaller town so that blows away that argument.

The way we are going, even if we had the old gates of 6K plus we would still blow it on another second rower

we need a half back asap and another prop for sure - need to put a good run together now before the really hard games start - Toulouse ( plenty of beer being drunk that weekend) fax, fev, sheff

You need to understand it is fans that are rightly moaning who are paying good money to watch competitive RL. When the club promised to be transparent we believed them foolishly once again. Then we lose squad members with no replacement then we lose our scrum half ang replacement either permanent or loan was brought in yet other smaller supported clubs could manage this.. To top it all we play the most boring RL Widnes have ever played and you moan about real fans moaning you need to see the wood it's through the trees

The Club has been mismanaged in one way or another since the late 80’s and since the mid 90’s it’s been one step forward two steps back a lot of the time,I’ve been going since 1987 mostly as a season ticket  holder and over the last 5 years I’ve said no more I’m not renewing and each time i do…This is the year I think I’m done I don’t see a future as far as  competing anytime soon,I don’t see it as being ‘Fickle’ I see it as being realistic,We haven’t got a pot to pee in and the money we do have is squandered on players who are well past they’re sell by date and as someone else has posted we get outrecruited by clubs with a fraction of our support.

Was Widnes a big town in the 70s and 80s ?

I see small town Leigh have just beaten big town Warrington.

Exactly, let’s not forget that this smallish town was RL World Champions in 1989. We shouldn’t just be meekly accepting that being a mid table championship side is the limit of our ambitions.

I don’t get this ‘non-competitive’ shite that’s repeated drivel constantly. It’s all would of could of should have but minus 2 stupid errors we would be 8-3 instead of 6-5. But isn’t that professional sport and how life works? Between 3rd-9th there is 4 points in it everyone minus fev are beating everyone and games are a hell of a lot closer than 10 years ago.

Were playing boring rugby, I agree and I don’t enjoy watching 5 drives and a kick as much as the next man, but to say we’re not competitive in games is just bullshit to be honest.

we’ve had 2 severely bad games this season. Dewsbury away which was unforgivable in my opinion, and fev at home which we looked awful but minus Sheffield fev have blown everyone away in the league.

I’ll continue with my normal criticism when I believe it’s relevant and supporting when being a realist

The disappointment for me is not buying wisely and decided to play Owens and Lyons at halfback. Rather than get Jones and Dixon why not try for a halfback? Hope the club did and nobody was available. It just seems crazy having 6 back rowers. Next year I would look at getting rid of some of the old guard Owens, Lyons and probably look at Craven having competition with a better halfback than Lyons. I have liked Craven but I feel passed his best and pulls muscles and brittle for injuries. Keep him at the club in another role and pay peanuts for game time. If we can get better quality get rid of a few forwards who are also not so good like Olly Davies.

I certainly agree the club are making some terribly slow decisions in reinforcing the squad in vital positions. Lyons has never been good enough and Owens is never a half. We knew Gilmore was biscuits when he plays for us and craven hasn’t been able to string together a group of complete performances for 2 years now. However every game minus 2 we’ve been competitive

From what Kear said post match today he is looking to Lawton & Davies to support the middles when short rather than play them out wide. Considering Walker,  Hatton &  Field were unavailable today I have to admit we coped very well. However whether it will work against the top sides is another matter. Lawton worked hard today & tackled effectively hurting them in the process as well as making strong runs. Possibly his best performance since his return  imo. Obviously props are few & far between & I am prepared to trust in Kear. Despite his faults he is the best coach we have had for many years.

Gilmore was terriffic today & will improve us no end. His passes to forwards on the burst were to perfection & he converted 2 beauties from the touchline  &  put some good varied field kicks in.

We were not boring to watch today. It was very enjoyable. Before anyone says it was only Swinton they have beaten Bradford & Batley this season, we didn't.

Geoff, I think if see a fully fit squad and an organising halfback, it is bound to help. Personally I couldn't understand why Kear didn't go for a halfback, as Gilmore and Craven are good players but prone to injuries. If we can get a robust halfback then we could see a decent team all season, rather than putting Jack at halfback. Let's see how we go for the next 4 games and as you say Kear is probably one of the best coaches available. Unless we get an upgrade on Kear, then I think it the best we can do for now. 🥖🥖🥖👍
