True, but he got a lot of those early in the season playing outside Gelling before Gelling started missing loads of games through injury.

The comparison is pointless as Cross and Hatton aren’t here anymore.

Next season will kick off 30 January in order to fit in the rearranged world cup.

One often overlooked aspect of prop play is the speed of ptb. Walmsleys size is only one factor in his play, the quick ptb sets up many options for Roby.

I can remember two props in our recent past who used their strength to move the lying on tacklers and ptb. It is an alternative use of a player's strength the leads to faster play and could change our game plan.

Normally kicks off that weekend regardless of World Cup doesn’t it?

Just as an aside to this thread. Does anybody know what the salary cap regulations are for the Championship please?

I have been trying to find it so I can make a guesstimate on our available funds for new players. Also so I can understand how some teams can afford to be full time whereas others with similar crowds etc cannot

thanks

Just a thought regarding Workington. Have they had their 'end of season' celebrations (Player of the Year etc). If not the Holroyd possibility maybe on ice atm.

It would be hard on the lad to say I'm leaving, give me the player of the year trophy!

Thanks for this

so as I understand it we can spend up to £2.1million as long as we can show sustainability?

plus marquee player exemptions etc

didnt realise it filtered down the same as Super League

thanks

Im not particularly concerned about the wingers – Spedding or Fleming Ince Brookes possibly Holroyd to come. Edge/Roby as back up. Props remain the main concern. Quality is fine but we are short on numbers.

Ollie brookes will be our top winger next year

Mitch Clark looks like a good fit for us, if he wants PT  footy. For some reason he didn't seem to click with the Wigan ideal.

Going to Newcastle, apparently

The attraction of FT I guess.

We went into last season with 26 players. I guess that we hoped to loan players in particular from Warrington to make up the slack.  That didn't work out in particular due to covid with full time Super League players unwilling or unable to leave a fulltime covid bubble at wherever to play and train in a part time covid bubble at Widnes. I think at the moment we have 24 players (I stand to be corrected) but the balance seems better with less ''old'' players and less very inexperienced youngsters and more forwards. 24 players won't be enough when we seemed last year to lose players to work commitments as well as to injuries. We'll need to pick up players either before the season starts (preferable) or through loans. Warrington, Wigan, Saints, Salford all have reserve teams and squads for next season but will play I believe only 16 reserve matches and possibly a play off at the end. 16 matches isn't enough for player development so players should come up for loans. Unless we pick up more players before the season starts our season is probably in the lap of the gods and in the lap of relationships with surrounding Super League Clubs. Not an entirely convincing position to be in given the last 2 seasons but we are where we are.
