There will be less travelling to Dewsbury and Leigh than there otherwise would be, that's a simple fact.
Cup matches are less attended now in the early rounds than previously anyway.
Also as a TV viewer, you get more into it seeing a good crowd and atmosphere: 800 on a Monday at Dewsbury or Sheffield isn't going to do it for you.
More Widnes fans managed to find their way to Dewsbury on Monday this season than they did on a Sunday last season!
People who complain about Monday night games are probably the same people who quite enjoy watching other teams on the box on a Monday night.
Widnes are a relatively big draw for a second tier TV deal. If a club is a reliant on Widnes bringing a few hundred more fans on a Sunday than a Monday, then they're in big trouble anyway.
Does anyone know how much a championship club gets from Premier sports if they are the home team for a TV game on a Monday? I can’t say I’ve seen any figures of payments mentioned anywhere or even if Premier sports have paid anything to do the games.Â
should we just be grateful they want to show RL or is it a case the RFL are getting money for the coverage which will make its way into SL coffers or maybe the guys running RFL.Â
I see Leigh have signed Inu today and most likely will play against us on Monday night. Always been a fan of Inu I think he was good for us, and great for Salford.
But I can't help but feel that Leigh just don't learn their lesson signing players like this. If they go up this year (don't think they will) then they're back to square one finding a centre for next year, Inu is now 35.
I know a player who was at Leigh recently who informed me that it was a very poor set up, I just can't see how signing players like this at 35 improve that. Presumably this is because they wanted Gelling and he wouldn't come over.
Jury is still out over Lam for me, I know many Wigan fans that don't rate his style at all. (Cue big win for Leigh Monday night now!). Â
Inu is past it not fit to lace Tyrers bootsÂ
I didn’t know the 1895 Cup has been doubled up with this tie…When was this decided?
Is this true ?
I thought the 4 last clubs from champ/ league 1 before sl clubs come in are straight through to quarter finals or last 2 to semi finals ?
@ditton-donkey This is on the Vikings Website when tickets were made availableÂ
@jdgsport weren’t people isolating because of Covid (Delta, Omicron etc) than last weekend ?
”Lies, damn lies and statistics” ……. I suspect the figures, whilst being factually accurate, would probably not take context into account. Just saying ….

It's the same as it was last season. The last 4 non-SL sides left in the Challenge Cup will make up the 1895 Cup. We played Featherstone in the 1895 Cup semis having been knocked out of the Challenge Cup by Salford.
Although there is a bit of a twist this season - because Toulouse have got promoted, there are only 11 Super League sides joining in six round of Challenge Cup, which of course leaves five non-SL sides.
So there will likely be a play-off between two of those five, to join the other three in the 1895 Cup semi finals.
@jdgsport what if all five sides lose in Rond Six - how do you think they will decide which three qualify automatically and which two will have to face each other in the knockout match ?
I think the fairest way would be the two teams beaten by the biggest margins have to play off in that scenario. One thing is for sure they need to announce the method by which the two teams will be selected before the draw is made for the last 16 in order to be transparently fair to all clubs.Â

How about the top 3 in league position automatically go through, leaving numbers 4 & 5 to play off!
You are quite right in that all clubs need to know the criteria to be used well before the draw is made.
I’m sure that the numpties in the RFL will point out that Monday games on TV will bring in a wider audience, although I personally think it’s at the expense of supporters actually going to a game.
Remember the floodlight cup - that was on Tuesday night I think, apart from a final we lost ( bramley ?)
which if I recall was played on a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon as there was a 3 day week (1973 ?)
Sunny, I’d be treating the cups as a separate entity rather than basing it on league position though I can see the merit in your suggestion.
So we could have played Leigh twice at their place then with an all pay crowd and we have decided to double up ?
whoever loses now has 2-3 blank weekends with no incomeÂ
I struggle with that scenarioÂ
The more you think about it the more ridiculous it gets
the 1895 cup was originally a secondary competition to give lower league teams the chance to get to wembley
it had early rounds and then covid came and there were very few entries which then forced the move to the last 4 standing
surely given the lack of fixtures for league 1 clubs it should have been league 1 clubs plus a couple of invitation teams to play the first round and then championship losers from challenge cup to join in later rounds, because the original concept had the possibility a championship team could have been playing twice at wembley
better to have a new knockout competition for championship and league 1 - you could call it the northern rails cup
