We can’t afford to bring in top championship players so are dependent on local talent that want to play for widnes and aren’t offered full time contracts elsewhere. It is what it is until we find significant investment
just pick Abdul for the next game Alan.
Our coach Alan Coleman has issued an apology on the club website for not letting the players go over to the supporters at the end of the match at Barrow. He said it's been a bad 2 weeks both on & off the field but no further details which we may or may not discover.
For now that is acceptable to me but it is essential he learns from past selection errors & we win the next few matches. Abdull has got to be recalled. If not I fear some supporters will call it a day out of years of frustration & we would be unlikely to attract any new ones anytime soon.
@geoffw I assume the people, like myself, who would prefer to see JA playing must be fully aware of the circumstance surrounding his non selection? I am not, and I am not the only one. I hope any issues are resolved and we see a solution that benefits the club and the supporters.
Quite right steelviking
If he loses either game against Dewsbury I’d be showing him the door. Get somebody in to try and salvage the season and start the recruitment process for next.
I am on the fence with this at the moment because we have to pay him off, then if want a decent coach will cost a lot of money. We need 2 big props and running halfback to improve this team. We are not far off and may be we do need that extra quality from Super League on loan. Nobody knows the situation with Abdul and his mental health, but if dropped him that is crazy because he is the most creative player in the squad, and has a tremendous kicking game even if unfit. I must admit I do not understand Colemans selections at times and he needs to get away from being too familiar and mates to pick players. Bibby and Houghton he signed and never plays them and ships one out. I just wonder if Sean Long or Kyle Eastmond be tempted next season if results does not go Alans way. It is a results business and he needs to think to look at props in the French League when finishes soon? Also a possible halfback? I love Alan to succeed but definitely have my doubts after 3 seasons with the same mistakes. Project signing, more backrowers than props, no running halfback and about time the Chairman has a word with him because the fans want success especially in this division.
For obvious reasons, Coleman is not very high on my Christmas Card list, but..............
If I was a player at ANY club, and wanted to go over to the fans after a game, and ANY coach told me not to, I would tell him him in no uncertain manner to shove his remarks where the sun doesn't shine! I would then do the complete opposite to his instructions, and say "Thank you" to those who pay my wages!
Spelly.
Director gone now, citing RFL criteria making it too hard for teams like widnes
the beginning of the end ?
@member151 sounds like Andy wanted to push forward put wasn't getting much assistance? Because other clubs have no issues putting extra money in ? So what restrictions have we got ?
Sorry I meant apart from lack of ambition
Maybe Andy thought that with his investment, and onboarding other investors, SL was a realistic proposition.
The 'restrictions' might be the realisation that, regardless of best endeavours, it's just not achievable for Widnes to meet the criteria.
