@cumbria-viking exactly if those people who won't put extra in stand aside and if still love the club become a sponsor etc plenty of ways to invest
if twinny kept the 2 who were willing to put in and they could be the steady hand on the board
hes a successful businessman so he's not a boom bust merchant or he wouldn't be successful there'd be a trail of debris behind him
i dont know how the board can salvage not putting money in ? It's quite damning
Won’t put extra money in the club to invest in the squad etc but will happily buy out a person who was actively seeking to invest in the club doesn’t make sense, especially when that money could’ve been used to improve the squad not pay AH off. Is a mini dictatorship forming lol!
Doesn’t look good however you look at it. And tonight will just be the usual BS…
i dont know how the board can salvage not putting money in ? It's quite damning
I think from the outset they were never about putting money in, their goal was to steady the club and make it self sufficient, I'm not sure they should be putting off other people willing to put money in, I would love to know their reservations. Its not like they are making mega bucks for themselves from the club
@spideylizard it's not they bad people they have steadied the ship but to lose someone who is willing to invest and then to lose tim it's obvious it's not going in the right direction and the super league door is closing softly softly is safe ala Batley so if we agree to become that type of club so be it , but don't promise long term plans when your rejecting investment from a board member
It will certainly be interesting to hear what is said at the meeting tonight.
It is easy to criticise those who have put their time and money to keep the Club afloat, despite the lack of support from the RFL.
Do we want a boom and bust like Featherstone? What is the point of putting in money in the short-term hope of promotion to SL, only to go bust when that dream does not materialise. Whether that is a reason to walk away from potential investment in the hope of promotion is another matter. The alternative, I suppose, is simply to let the Club fade away, but I do wonder whether this is what the RFL want to happen.
The problem is the RFL lack of planning and ongoing uncertainty for the game outside SL, the Las Vegas dream and NRL riches. The RFL have made it clear that they see no future for the game outside SL, with the Championship Clubs becoming "affiliated" to the chosen ones in SL.
The Club and supporters of the game need to demand answers from the RFL about the future of the game. Are there plans to develop a competitive second tier in the game, with promotion and relegation? Are there plans to increase the size of SL in the short-term, to give some hope to Clubs like Widnes with a decent fan base, the opportunity of promotion?
I am pessimistic for the future of rugby league in Widnes and for the game generally. The RFL are doing a great job of killing the game in pursuit of riches.
Let us see what the Chairman says. The real issue hereI think is the level of salary cap going forward which we have been told is going to be cut. No matter how rich an owner is if the cap is say £300k that is all that could be spent on forming a squad of players. It may be that directors can put money into other aspects of the club but that must be limited when they do not own it.
How the hell you can turn down someone that want's to put money into a club with next to no assets is mind boggling. They may own the club but it's worthless. We are on a huge downwards spiral and if a push for SL fails we will be no further down the ladder. It's crunchie or bust either way.
This is bloody depressing so why not take the Middle East and Australian investment? What is the point being a feeder club to Warrington, and if this happens i wont watch Widnes with 400 fans at Frank Mylers Pavilion. They will eventually sell the stadium to housing because the Council has debts. I never watch Widnes rugby union club and this will just make me switch off Rugby League as an interest forever too. We are getting a decent team now, and I am enjoying the rugby and this will just deflate me if this squad goes. Flash said on Twitter there is investors, but this board want to sit on the throne doing nothing. If we do not go for Super League in the next few years it is done forever.
thanks to the Widnes board for saving the club when we needed them most. Without them, we might not even have a club today.
But now we need to move forward. Survival can’t be the long-term ambition. We need fresh investment, renewed ambition, and a real push toward Super League, otherwise we risk being left behind and becoming nothing more than a feeder club for others.
@widnesviking "we are open to investors" one comes in tries to buy out the ones who aren't putting money in "why not keep directors and buy more shares"
lol is crazy thinking it's like a little club of control with no ambition
they say they don't want to be Fev or Halifax but unless we do something different it's just a slow death no one wants to be mid table championship
Let’s see what comes out of tonight first
@vikingfox71 so lets go wild on a completely unrealistic dream, which is exactly what superleague is right now, and have no club instead?
@scouseviking55 who said go wild ? Do you just make things up? Twinny wasn't stating he wanted to buy nrl players just make us more competitive and wanted other people to join him to make us a viable product? How is that unrealistic lol to be anywhere close to super league you have to be eye catching, innovative and well run not plodding along losing 200 fans a year happy to be 5th
twinny wanted to show an improvement which makes it a better investment possibility for others to join 👀🙈
and you say have no club carrying on as we are is not working and will also leave us with no club
