I don't know how many people still get the weekly news but apparently there was no coverage of Widnes Vikings prior to the Sheffield game which is shocking for the local paper. Even Ice Hockey is given more space, I believe. Not saying the lack of coverage is knocking hundreds off the gate but it certainly doesn't help.
I read this the other day on Twitter and it appears that James said Ice Hockey send their own report and that's why their report is in. I'm not going to have a go at the club for this but I find it strange that a second rate newspaper that carries nothing but adverts in can't be bothered to report on a World renown team even if they have fallen on hard times. News is not easy to come by in Widnes so I cant understand why they cant fill up a page of sport with a guide to our team. I'm still not buying it so I cant boycott it.
I stopped buying the weekly news a year ago, partly due to the lack of Widnes coverage and partly because there was hardly any news in it about Widnes (the town), they were putting in stories about things happening in merseyside and Cheshire.
Ive wrote to them twice about the lack of RL in the paper, but didn’t even get the courtesy of a reply. And when they do put articles/reports on Widnes Vikings, in it, it’s just copied word for word from the official website. They musnt be able to afford to pay for a sports reporter, or they aren’t bothered, probably down to the fact that there isn’t a office in the town anymore.
Like you said it won’t make a massive difference to the crowd, but if we got another 500 on the gate with better coverage from them, it would be very welcome.
The way the team are playing this season they deserve more than 2,500 watching them, unfortunately when people stop watching them, it’s hard to get them to come back. I think we can try and help by letting friends and relatives know how well they are playing and try and encourage them to come back and watch them.
To be honest the printed press is on its way out anyway.By the time the paper reaches the shops it's already old news.Daily as well as weekly.
I agree the number of newspapers sold has gone down quite a lot, but how many are now paying for them to read on their tablet? Every day there’s a full page advert asking you to get the paper a lot cheaper on your tablet. But I don’t think you can do that with the Weekly News

It is bad, I agree. Maybe the club don't think it warrants somebody chasing up the WWN when it has all the SM platforms covered? Only they know.

If they did an article every week on the Vikings it wouldn't put 5 on the gate, never mind 500!
If the club do a report for the website though surely for the sake of 1 email it would be easy to just forward it on? Don't know timescales for producing the match report or printing in the paper so not sure if that's part of it?
All the rags are rubbish, but WWN must be pushing the Echo for worst paper.
Perhaps Farnworth Viking meant 50,not 500. I'm not sure the weekly news even sells 500 copies anyway.I don't know anyone who still buys it.

Probably because its run by the Echo news group.
How refreshing it is to debate rugby related matters with a sense of pride and not seating arrangements, etc. Bring on York, we were so lucky to win there. So looking forward to Sunday.
