3422 attendance.Slightly disappointing ?
Thought that was a decent attendance tbf. Hopefully 4500 v Leigh the next home game on Good Friday.
More of an acid test I think will be the Batley game at home, which could well be sub 3000 if we have a few losses in between times.
No charge for Tyrer followng the Barrow game (curiously the only decision from this weekend's Championship games listed on the RFL website so far).
Doesn't this indicate how ridiculous the decision by the ref really was.... one of the many biased or inept decisions he made all night.
No matter how we talk about Rough with the Smooth etc, he cost us the game.

Sunny the we lost the game nothing to do with the ref all where 50/50 decisions on another day we will be on the end of decisions in our favour. What cost us the game was not pushing up in defence giving away easy yardage all game and both wingers not holding position in defence. The annoying thing is that both issues have been happening for years and never been addressed and changed, it is school boy mistakes for whatever reason cannot be spotted and rectified.

Totally agree!!!!! they receive the ball on their ten and make seventy yards. We receive the ball on our ten and make forty yards; they move up at the play the ball, we allow them to get to us from the play the ball, same at Leigh hence the reason we played most of the game in our half. Its not rocket science
I watched the game as a neutral (Fev fan) and pretty much agree with much of what has been said, Widnes had loads of decisions go against them but also had too many areas where the team was below form especially on that left edge defending.
It's a while since I've seen a game where so many 50-50s went against one team but I think it was just one of those days where most of them went against Widnes, must have been massively frustrating if you were a Widnes fan but in most games I reckon the ref will have 15 or 20 50-50 decisions to make and I reckon in this instance about 80% of them went against you.
I actually think the lad will turn out to be a very good ref (he's only 22 I believe), a few of the decisions were contentious but I think that's just bad luck and nothing else. Think this forum has generally handled the situation better than some fans of my own club would have done to be honest.
From a neutral point of view it was a cracking game to watch which I realise is little consolation if you are a Widnes fan.

Really interesting to get a neutrals point of view!
You have to wonder at the wisdom of handing a game like this. on TV too, to a youngster ref ? Doesn't do him or the public's view of the game a great deal of good.
We weren't 'on song' but still made line breaks that weren't cashed in. Probably our least experienced team so far, no doubt they will have learned from the experience.
York should, hopefully, be a different game plan.
@sandgroper - Yes, to score more points than York do......to improve our line speed......to hold our positions when they are attacking......to cut out wild off-loads......

“Wisdom” and the “RFL” aren’t two words that normally go together!
Ain't that the truth! It was plain, imo anyway!, that things were happening too fast for him on occasion. Particularly with the forward pass try.
The TJ wasn't a great deal of help, but the North Stand's combined experience , freely shared, wasn't enough to resolve his panic!!!
Must be quite scary at his tender age!!!
Plenty of variables last night, I did feel the referee influenced the result but I applaud Barrow. No way should they have more energy after the journey they have and potentially some of them working prior to that. Their defence was excellent for long periods.
Another big factor for me which hasn't been mentioned is the start of the second half, I think we had one set in the first 8 minutes, it seemed to zap us of energy and the lack of ideas continued.
No leadership issue, Smith was constantly talking to the players. We missed Baker in the pack, and I thought Dupree didn't have much of an impact which was disappointing, neither did Lawton. Doro does a ton of work so it's hard to criticise the odd error he has, sheer numbers game if you're involved in more of the action.
Farnworth continues to be an injury worry, has he ever played 3 or 4 games on the bounce for us? This is why he isn't playing SL.
Certainly need to work hard over the next 2 weeks before we play York. This will be a tough game and we need Craven, Owens, Brooks, Farnworth and Baker all back in for this one.
Interesting note about Farnworth - he's actually only ever started 11 games for Widnes since his debut in 2017.

With him and Levy in the side plus a shortage of props does it once again show as bad recruitment ? even though the club stated they knew the problem last season and said they would rectify it ?.
A little frightening that after so few games the prop forward position is so weak and with us not yet played the better teams we may well struggle again down the middle.
