Barrow game

From my neutral point of view, on the telly, it looked like you copped for a couple of iffy decisions, but.....

You had the perfect start, and didn't kick on from it.

Barrow were the better side over the eighty, and deserved their win.

An unbeaten opening to the campaign for a promoted team, is summat special, and Crarey seems to be pointing his charges in the right direction.

Well done so far, the Raiders.

Spelly.

The try on half time was a key moment, should never have been allowed to sneak in at the corner as we had more than enough bodies there.

There were forward passes aplenty in the decisive try of the game - but ultimately, aside from the first 10 minutes, were well second best.

Desperately need Farnworth back for a bit of aggression in the middle. Wells turned the game coming off the bench for them.

That try was shocking just before half time. There was 3 minutes left on the clock and lost the ball on the 3rd tackle in a good position in attack. Poor game management and shows we miss Owens, Craven, Baker, Farnworth and I would drop Holyroyd. I would try Roby on the wing when Jack Owens returns and I feel him and Craven give us more leadership. Don't think we will see much of Levy he has some size for the pack. My passion has dropped lately with the last 2 performances.

Pretty poor performance last night . Also a reality check for those who think we will coast into the play offs behind Fev and Leigh , its going to be a tough slog .

The try on half time didn't help but they'd have still gone on to win anyway, in my opinion. From 18-10 at the break.

Felt yesterday we missed a real leader to talk us around the park. Smith seemed to struggle against a much quicker stand off in Sammut and miloudi embarrassed our left side with his dancing feet. It was a wake up call with I think one or 2 lads believing their own hype and I hope the return of baker et Al will galvanise us next time out

as for the forward pass try. Right in front of me the pass started in front of me and was caught in front of my mate 5 seats down

for the officials not to spot that is not great.

having said that we didn’t help ourselves with poor hall retention and kicking

onwards

On the wrong end of a couple of poor decisions, notably the missed forward passes leading up to a key Barrow try but the better side won on the night. Left sided defence was badly exposed by Miloudi in particular. Bar Leigh and Fev there’s going to be a lot of teams scrapping it out for the other playoff spots. We’ve now won one possibly four pointer (Halifax) and lost one. York away will be the next one. Need to be at our best.

Plenty of variables last night, I did feel the referee influenced the result but I applaud Barrow.  No way should they have more energy after the journey they have and potentially some of them working prior to that.  Their defence was excellent for long periods.

Another big factor for me which hasn't been mentioned is the start of the second half, I think we had one set in the first 8 minutes, it seemed to zap us of energy and the lack of ideas continued.

No leadership issue, Smith was constantly talking to the players.  We missed Baker in the pack, and I thought Dupree didn't have much of an impact which was disappointing, neither did Lawton.  Doro does a ton of work so it's hard to criticise the odd error he has,  sheer numbers game if you're involved in more of the action.

Farnworth continues to be an injury worry, has he ever played 3 or 4 games on the bounce for us?  This is why he isn't playing SL.

Certainly need to work hard over the next 2 weeks before we play York.  This will be a tough game and we need Craven, Owens, Brooks, Farnworth and Baker all back in for this one.

The try just on half time was from a blind backward offload by Wilde! Straight to Sammut!

Comes back to trying to score off every play.

The forward pass was a shambles both Ref and TJ looked as if they were going to blow, but then waved play on!

Barrow just managed the game so much better than we did, they looked more dangerous on the spread plays because they had a half that carried a threat, Which stopped our middles from pushing out wide to help defend the edges.

We miss Danny Craven, you can carry one of Smith or Lyons, but against anything like a decent team you can't carry them both.

We have a decent team for this league, but if we dont play well, teams like Barrow, Bradford, Batley etc will turn us over. We dont have the quality to play poorly and still grind out results against anything other than the worst teams.

Not all on here, but on other SM sites, too. It's all about the Ref missing a forward pass etc. Do we all forget the one we got away with on our second try at Dewsbury, 2 weeks back? It's swings and roundabouts. The Officials only give what they see, the can't get everything right. We were 2nd best on the night. The first 3 Barrow tries were defensively embarrassing. It's all our own doing, nobody else's.

It just goes to show it will be a competitive division. Onwards to York.

Up The Chemics

Paulie xx

We broke their line several times late on but couldn't find a pass to get a man over.

Time to settle and sort ourselves out again, not to panic!

No charge for Tyrer followng the Barrow game (curiously the only decision from this weekend's Championship games listed on the RFL website so far).
