The last update we had was at the start of the season Finnigan said he was hopeful Tomkins would be back after 3 months, depending how his rehab on the injury went. That would of seen him back around June time but no updates since. Its gone very quiet on Cook recently as well, he's now been out for quite a while as well as Dwyer and Jewitt.

Having spoken about the Tompkins situation with a player at the stadium during meetings I attend there, I was also told Tompkins is on Furlough until end of September as are other long term casualties.

It was confirmed by Finnigan a while ago that Dwyer had left due to work commitments.

Would be very surprised if Cook, Jewitt and Tomkins don't retire at end of this season.

I would hope and trust that Tomkins is either definitely classed as 'fit' or he does the honourable thing and withdraws from his contract. There are posters on here who think that he will screw the club, time will tell.

Surely we will have learned that SL players looking to extend their careers don't always fit into the less cultured Championship game. There are players in that arena very much like to players who sustained this club for years, many with distinction.

As has been pointed out by others, teams with that logic do succeed and that is what we have to use as our example. We have shown that we have players with skills but they need support from honest to goodness grafters.

When we have had our first choice team out we can play but we have never had the squad depth to cover illness and/or injury adequately. That was an error either of judgement or a lack of investment, maybe to ensure that our financial security wasn't threatened again.

Even a drop to League 1 would be seen as preferable  to extinction, and we look like escaping that at least.

There are many, no doubt who would have done it better but don't have a seat on the Board and thus the responsibility. We can all second guess from the side lines, that is our right, but having taken over a club literally on the floor I can see that the Board's responsibility for our continuing survival is paramount.

Just read we have signed local lad Matty Fozard for next season in MEN. Really good signing for us and should easily fill the void left by Tompkins. Can also cover the halves.

Sounds like the MEN know all the signings the club said they have made but are holding off on announcing until the season has finished and they have stopped playing for their current clubs.

Pretty much all the announced and rumoured signings look (at least on paper) the level of player that should see us challenging for the playoffs. But only Tyler Dupree is a prop. Big job ahead to rectify that situation.

Which is why I think the signings rumoured so far are a bit irrelevant. Unless we sign a number of props we’ll be in the same situation we’re in now. We’ve got to be signing a number of props.

3 new ones ought to suffice alongside Farnworth & Tilluke (sp?)

Couldn’t disagree more with that. Five props won’t get you through a season. Two starting and two/three on the bench every game it would leave no back up. We had six at the start of this one!

Tilleke isn’t ready yet and Farnworth is injury prone.

What this season has proved is you can’t have enough props.
