You have to laugh. They wanted to break away from the RFL so they could control the commercials, broadcast deal etc. But at first sign of trouble, they’re demanding the RFL sorts out some sort of compensation.
I guess that rugby league will be low on the Government priorities, but the RFL should channel any grants that they may get to where it is needed, in the Championship and League 1 where clubs survival is dependant ongate receipts on a match to match basis.
The likes of McManus and Co may need to put their hands in their pockets to keep their clubs afloat. They also have the sky money to keep them going, as long as Sky will continue to pay with no games to televise. Maybe we will see SL games behind closed doors on Sky before long?
