The General Election

So Spelly, I know you're an avid Labour supporter and I respect your loyalty to the party. So I was just wondering if you could clue me in on the things that are going to be so much better under Captain Flip-Flop ? Because he seems to me to be a very weak leader who can't make his mind up about anything, and if he does, it's usually followed by a U-turn. This country is in terminal decline, for example: crime - completely out of control and neither the government or Dibble could care less. NHS - on it's knees, gripped by woke and EDI all at the expense of patient care. Immigration - completely out of control but I guess Flip Flop will deal with that by letting anyone come here so that's sorted. And I just wondered where all the state school places are coming from for the kids who won't be able to go to private schools any more ? Now don't get me wrong, the Tories have had a long time to do something and they've made a pig's ear out of it. The election will be a deserved electoral bloodbath for them. So over to you mate. And just some background, my parents believed that they should always vote Labour because "they lived in a council house". Unlike a certain Labour deputy leader, they didn't have any trouble remembering which one.

I've mentioned on other threads that Starmer wasn't my choice, when the leadership was up for grabs, but......

As with Brexit, when I voted "Remain" I accepted the democratic result, and he now has my support.

If ( probably when?) we're elected, not for a moment am I suggesting that'll it'll be honey and roses from 5 July onwards, but.....

After fourteen years of "Blue Rule" I'm thinking (and particularly the NHS) of the song that goes "Things can only get better!"

I have a "Vote Labour" poster in my window, and at least we've not been involved in betting scandal, where two candidates have "---- had their support withdrawn" by the Tory Party.

Fifty years a Labour Party member, and I look forward to another Labour Party member entering the most famous front door in the land on Friday week!

Thought there was now a labour candidate accused as well, this time of betting on the Tories to win in his constituency I believe? How are these people so stupid as to 1) doing this in the first place & 2) getting caught?

The word "stupid" doesn't even go near to describing this scenario mate, whether they be Labour, Tory, or whatever!

It's obscene, and how they even thought they could get away with it, is unbelievable!

The disappointment and difference with the Labour party member is that he was betting on himself to lose, which he would have done, whereas the Tories all had insider information and could not resist the opportunity to make some beer money. Starmer sacked him and returned £100,000 donation straight away. That's a leader in control of his party. As for continual flip flopping I like that in a leader. Someone who will listen to an argument and then realise he's wrong and be big enough to change. pity few others don't do this. 😀

Watched the debate last night, which was superbly "refereed" by Mishal Hussain, where they bickered like two kids in the playground!

Continually talking over each other, and I doubt that very few people in the "undecided" camp are any clearer as to where they'll put their X a week today.

Are any of you Chemics still in the "WTF do I vote for?" frame of mind?

And another flip!

I see that one of Nigel's Nobodies, has defected, and has now become one of Rishi's Ragbags instead!

Yet more good news for us, as the opposition weakens and crumbles almost by the hour! So.........

Vote Labour on Thursday, coz..................

You know it makes sense!

I've noticed that a couple of adverts for Reform have popped up on here. This reminded of last week when one of their leaflets was on my doormat when I returned home.

It was put straight in the black bin, not the blue one, coz as far as I know, **** can't be recycled! 🤣 🤣 🤣

Whilst I'm happy that Reform are taking votes away from the Tories, surely anyone contemplating voting for them realises that they are actually the BNP in disguise?

A second candidate has now made a similar move, with Georgie David claiming "---- the vast majority are racist, misogynistic, and bigoted."

Hardly a glowing endorsement for (no chance of being PM) Nigel is it?

I reckon that Labour's biggest danger is complacency, with (especially if the weather's not the best) people thinking summat like "Starmer will get in anyway, so why should I bother getting off my **** and going to the polling station?

Every vote matters, and I say yet again that it's your duty, and not your privilege to do so!

If someone can't be bothered to vote, do you think they've bothered to read manifesto's and the like to see who they should vote for?

I never get the call for people to vote if they know nothing about the candidates. Those votes seem even more dangerous IMO.

But if they were forced / obliged to do so, perhaps that could / would change their indifference / can't be a***d approach?

There are still people on this planet that are denied what we consider the basic right of putting an X in a box, but the turnout on Thursday will be below 70% in all probability, and for those 30%, their chance to make a statement, will be gone forever!

We'll never agree on this mate, and I'm sure there's more than you on this board, who have a similar view, that's democracy, but................

C'est la vie, and..............

I'll be doing my duty in less than forty-eight hours, at the church hall that's a couple of hundred metres from where I'm bashing this out!

So now there's less than a day before the polls open, and by the weekend, the Blue Brigade will probably be looking for a(nother) new leader, so.........

What's the general feeling on here?

1) Who's in the "I can't be a***d voting!" mood? Or......

2) Who's defo going to the polling station, but is still undecided? Or.....

3) Who (like me) is (more than) convinced where they're gonna put their X? And finally.........

4) What's your prediction on the turnout? I'm going for 62%.

Today’s the day we can rid the country of the most corrupt gang of robbers I can remember in all my life. First thing the “new” government must do is get the money back from those responsible for the PPE scandal, jail Mone and sell the yacht she bought from the profits she made from our taxes. Then take the perks Truss gets and make her pay for the damage she incurred on every working person in the country ( cost me £5000)

If someone is forced/obliged to do something, that by definition ISN'T democracy!

They're denied the right to be able to vote, not the right to vote. Big difference. The Aussies fine people for not voting, which is ridiculous.

The other thing is the apathy is multi-faceted. Some think I can't be bothered they're all crooks/liars, and others will think what's the point if someone is going to win by 10,000 votes. There will be some seats where even if you added the non-turnout votes to the opposition they still wouldn't win.
Be interesting to see what the % of overall potential voters decide as well, not turnout , as in previous years.

Got the Beeb on, and the exit poll indicates what's been predicted all along, that we're heading into Downing Street, by a landslide, whilst north of the border, Swinney's Sidekicks look like they've been caned by the electorate!

Happy days are here again?
