So he (like Sunak and Starmer) received a (stage managed) standing ovation, joined on stage by his better half on the stage, and mingled with the faithful, but.....................

He was (like Sunak and Starmer) preaching to the converted, whose votes are guaranteed when elections come round! It's not those people he needs to convince!

They were destroyed at Rutherglen, so they've a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnng way to go before returning to becoming the leading power north of Hadrian's Wall, let alone pushing for Indyref 2!

I look forward to the general election, and Labour being the major player in Scotland, meaning independence being farther away than ever!

Sorry but I can't see anything at the moment apart from the SNP remaining the major player in Scotland.  What we can hope is that they lose a number of seats and that the push for Independence gets pulled back.  As I said, I think this is diversionary tactics for what has been going on in the background.  I would like to think ther is still more to come out.  IMHO, there should be as some of the funding has been catastrophic.  They are back into buying votes.  A freezing of Council Tax may sounds great.  But who pays for it?  The costs to local councils are still rising (energy, salaries, etc).  If it comes from the Scottish Government, were is that coming from?  Oil?  Gas?  They are hand in glove with the Greens so that won't go down well.  It's well known that at the lastest Independence vote, a number of major institutions had provisionally arranged for offices South of the Border.

I know that if Scotland do get Independence, my missus and I will be moving out.

So Sturgeon's successor has now been told to "Shove it!" by the Scottish Greens, and his party are now gonna operate on a minority government scenario eh?

It'll be interesting how they perform come the General Election, but I can see 'em nose-diving at the polls, and they might then accept that independence is as far away as ever!

I say yet again, that Edinburgh, Dundee, and John o' Groats, are as British as are London, Widnes, and Monton!

@spelly Well they'll be facing a vote of no confidence next week as a start!

Sturgeon's husband re-arrested as well. Will be interesting to see how that all plays out and if/what any illegal activities have gone on there.

Being an SNP member at present, is prob akin to being a Hull FC fan in RL! 😀

* And the Greens will vote against the SNP in the no confidence motion!

Independence? They're having a laugh!

Off he pops. There is still a no confidence vote table by Scottish Tories for next week by all accounts. Politics in Scotland is in as big a mess as it is for the rest of us by the looks of it.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out, especially if their Green push is big & the amount of £ that costs. I would expect another election there sooner rather than later.

Maybe if Independence isn't the no. 1 topic this time certain voters will change their preference.

So another who wants to dis-unite this United Kingdom of ours bites the dust eh?

When will the message sink in?

Independence is as far (if not farther) away than ever, and come the General Election, I look forward to the SNP being destroyed at the polls, and whoever succeeds Yousaf will also be reading the "Situations Vacant" column!

Rule Britannia!

So John Swinney looks set to become the latest leader of the "Let's dis-unite the UK" party eh? Yawwwwwwn!

He mentioned (like his predecessors did) "Scotland voted Remain! But...........

No they didn't!

As I've mentioned before, prior to the UK Referendum on the EU, the majority of those north of Hadrian's Wall voted to retain the Union in the Independence Referendum.

I voted Remain, and would do so again, but I democratically accept that the majority of those in this United Kingdom felt otherwise, however.............

It appears that the SNP still won't accept it!

We share a language, we share a monarch, we share a currency, and in the main, we share an island!

Independence? Words like "horse" "flogging" "dead" and "a" spring to mind!

Spelly.

The SNP is in a real mess at the moment, and the timing is not good considering that Labour are back on the up and Scotland is more likely to vote Labour than Conservative.

There is still a very vocal and visible push for Independence up here, and as is often the case it's fine if you are for it, but if you are against it, and state it vocally, expect some verbal and physical repurcussions.  As is often the case, the extreme side are more vocal and more abrasive.

During the Independence vote there were lots of cars with Yes stickers going around without any issues.  I bet if I had put a No sticker on my car it wouldn't have come out unscathed.

As an Englishman living in Scotland, I certainly don't want independence and neither do most of my Scottish friends.  The SNP is in a mess, as is the Scottish economy.  A friend of mine who is a doctor has told me that NHS Scotland is effectively bankrupt.  Long waiting times and no money to spend.

There is not enough manufacturing in Scotland to support independence, the oil economy is a shadow of what it used to be, and the one remaining oil refinery in Grangemouth is looking decidedly dodgy.

They have given free presciptions unilaterally but in reality that has only really benefited the well-off people as those on income support or needed regular prescriptions already got them free.  And now people expect to get paracetamol on free prescription.

I love living in Scotland, I like the people and the scenery is breathtaking.  But the SNP are too self serving.  It's like any government that's been in power for too long.  You start believing your own rhetoric, are indestructible, and they can do what they like.
