Lions 28-22 'Haven, at a competitive Heywood Road this afternoon, with the lead changing hands four times.

They scored first to lead 6-0, then we responded twice, making it was 12-6 for us, before they made it 12-12.

We then (not for the first, second, or zillionth time 😣) conceded just before the interval, so 12-16 was the HT scoreline.

They scored again early doors after the re-start, meaning they were 22-12 ahead, and I thought "That's it!" But....

We lasted the better, to register sixteen points without reply, which against a side that made the play-offs last term, is more than satisfactory, with a certain Lewis Else amongst our try scorers.

So the season starts in earnest next week, as we head to Llanelli for the cup-tie with the Raiders.

I'm going the scenic route, and setting off on Saturday, baling out at my good lady's in New Quay, then it's less than ninety minutes to the ground on Sunday.

Tottenham here we come! 🤣 🤣

@spelly Well done Spelly. Certainly a promising win for you. However Whitehaven have lost some key players & I expect them to be more towards he relegation fight than near the top this coming season.  Nevertheless a good win for you & hopefully is a sign you will be fighting for an immediate return to the Championship. Good luck for the coming season.

Well, the road to Wembley (ooooops Tottenham) starts for us this weekend, and we're down in Llanelli to play the Raiders.

Setting off in the morning, baling out out at Jan's tomorrow night. then it's about a 90 minute drive on Sunday morning.

Hopefully, a win awaits us, to put us in Tuesday's draw(s) at Mazeyville.

Good luck to you mob on your trip down the Smoke, and safe journey for those making the trip.

Raiders 0-96 Lions at Llanelli this aft, and.....................

Yes, it was as easy as it sounds / looks!

We kicked off, they took the ball, but we forced the guy into touch, and scored from the next play. 6-0 up in less than a minute!

56-0 at the interval, and 96 equals our highest ever score, but today, coz we nilled 'em, it's a record margin.

The hosts were poor, of course they were, and I 101% accept, that a scoreline like that, does precisely nowt for RL in the Principality, nor the game in general, but......

To their credit, they never threw the towel in, and battled till the last.

The bad news is, that it'll get a lot harder than that for us, as the season unfolds.

The draw for the next two rounds is at Mazeyville on Tuesday, and should we win next time out, it could poss be your mob v mine in round four, and.....

Looks like a good win for you today, down the Smoke.

Well done!

So it's North Wales at home in the next round for us eh?

I'm sure they'll prove a hugely more difficult test than did their Llanelli counterparts last Sunday.

They made the play-offs last term, and counted (champions) Barrow amongst the scalps they took during the league campaign.

Should we prove successful in that tie, we'll be hosting the winners of the Hunslet v Siddal tie in round four.

Fingers crossed.

Hard luck Spelly, although one of my friends went and said that the better side won.  He also thought there were less than 500 others watching the game, is this your normal attendance?

Better side won? No arguments there mate! 8-0 down, battled back to lead 14-8, and should've kicked on from there, but it inspired them instead, and it's the Crusaders who'll (deservedly) host Hunslet in the next round.

Back to the bad old days discipline wise, with a 10-3 hammering on the penalty count,

Attendance? 516. So the "house full" signs didn't go up!

Unless we can sort out a friendly meantime, there's no game now till the league kicks off at the end of March.

I've had better days, but congrats on your win!

@spelly looked shocking conditions and had I not already a ticket to saints Catalans would have gone to the crusaders game. They are a good team and the fact that most re signed for less money shows what they have going on. The new venture at Colwyn Bay works so well as the funding of the place is from the RFU for the ground. It is amazing the selection of shirts you get on game day and a good venue, Stadiwn Zipworld. It will be a good bench mark first and last game of the season hey Spelly

The pitch wasn't all that bad, despite the amount of water that had fallen on it in the days leading up to the game.

I was talking to some of their fans, and the move to Colwyn Bay, has gone down very well with 'em,

If we needed a wake up call, the Crusaders certainly gave us one, and the last match of the campaign, could be highly interesting!
