Regarding Sgt Major Eric Clay, iirc he called Alex Murphy a 'Yapper' because he always argued about Clay's decisions. Murphy reported him to the RFL.
The next time they clashed Clay penalised Murph for incorrect scrum feed. (Murph always bounced the ball in from chest level, ensuring that the ball bounced his way, rather than between the knee and the ground). Murphy asked Clay what he was doing wrong, after several penalties against him. Clay politely told him that he was the international player, 'I'm just the referee! You should know your job, I know mine!'
