I was reading an article on Dave Hughes the London chairman, from 2 years ago. He was saying he’s put over £20 million into London, and that’s why he’s still working in his 70’s! But he also thought they would get crowds of about 5,000 in 2-3 years. They’ve got a long way to go there, as there was about 600 there on Sunday and 100 of those were from Widnes.
Pity we couldn’t find someone with that sort of money to put in our club, If O Connor had put that sort of money in , instead of going to Australia, we’d probably still be in SL
Highly unlikely we have any fans with a spare 20 million quid to burn! And we aren’t an attractive proposition for anyone who is not a fan to invest in. Still, at least we get to go to Batley for an afternoon out!
He'll be lucky to get crowds over 2000. But fair play to him, the game is dependent on RL lovers with deep pockets, just wish we had one.
London are never going to get big crowds, even if they're in SL at some point in the future. What interest there is in the team is there already. A few hundred. It would be interesting to know how much of their home game fanbase are northerners living in or around the Smoke. I bet it's a high percentage. I admire what Hughes has done to invest that kind of money and it's commendable, but at what point do you decide it's just not worth it any more ? London in various forms has been around since 1980, that's 40 years to try and build the product. I wish him and the club well because they're really up against it with everything else that's available to people in London, especially football. Many traditional heartland clubs are struggling really badly as we know, so credit to Hughes and everyone involved down there, but it's such a battle.
