Things getting worse for them, as well as receiving a winding up order last week, their chairman Paddy Handley has today resigned with immediate effect. Saying he couldn’t get things done that he wanted doing.
It's not looking good at the moment. Even the website is now not working.
Nobody wants to see a club get in this situation, but it looks like theyve been overspending to get into Super League and it has come back to bite them.
No surprise really, spend, spend, spend an then o crunchie
Halifax could follow them , they’re rumoured to be heavily in debt as well
That’s sad to see teams fold, but would they come back in a different name ? - not like Blackpool who should have been helped
So much of this sort of muddle is created by the lack of a trustworthy and organised sport. Backroom, barely concealed, dealing and clubs reliant on sugar daddies handouts isn't good for any sport.
Soccer looks like its being sorted by government taking a hand but our game is in the same mess!!!
Someone needs to run the game for the whole game, not just the elite clubs. That means the top level, the lower leagues, grassroots and juniors. RL doesn't have enough money to do this and keep the elite level full-time, which is why a few SL-level power players are intent on the status quo. Unfortunately, that approach is killing the wider game.
Lord Lucan living up to his name on this thread 😀
Haha I'm not on here every day you know!
In any case I'm not sure what you'd expect me to say? It's a really grim situation for the club and I hope we can somehow come out the other side. Our spending spree of two years left us with lots of debts, with hindsight it was obviously ill-advised but also I can understand why the club went over the top because that was the last realistic chance we had at getting into SL because the IMG ratings system could hardly have been more unfavourable to a club like Featherstone.
I really don't know what the outcome will be, Fev have had a number of winding-up petitions before (including from HMRC) which have always been dismissed in what just looked like a bit of financial brinkmanship, but the vibe seems to be that the club are in a very deep financial mess this time.
That said, Mark Campbell who has taken back over at the helm, has a habit of coming up smelling of roses when things look bad so who knows, maybe there's some sort of plan involved, hopefully we can get to the starting line next year and still have a club even if as seems likely the playing squad gets decimated.
