Injury woes for Widnes, whilst the race for a top four finish continues
The Vikings earned their place back in the Championship top four spots last week following a bruising 24-8 victory over Barrow Raiders.
It was a tough contest that Widnes controlled for large periods, but most importantly two valuable competition points was earned against a direct Championship play off rival.
Widnes currently sit three games unbeaten, conceding only 12 points during those matches, highlighting the Vikings stern defensive capabilities that will be key during the remainder of the season.
Attention now turns to welcoming Salford RLFC to the DCBL Stadium in what could be a potential Banana skin game for Allan Colemans team.
Salford are a much improved team than the one that kicked off the Championship season against Oldham.
Experienced Championship players like Kieran Dixon have been recruited at a sensible rate, whilst youthful players like Toby Hughes have blossomed as the season has progressed.
A 22-20 defeat to Barrow Raiders and a 30-24 defeat to Sheffield Eagles in recent weeks reflect the progress made by the club. Salford will be travelling to the DCBL Stadium as serious contenders who will want to disrupt the Vikings charge.
Widnes injury woes
Allan Coleman welcomes Andy Badrock and Nathan Wilde back to the club on loan deals for the remainder of the Championship season from Super League club Leigh Leopards.
Badrock will boost Colemans Back-row and Centre options, whilst Wilde will battle for a place in the Front-row.
Morgan McWhirter and Liam Bent are likely to miss the remainder of the season after both sustaining serious leg injuries. Matt Fleming remains sidelined for a lengthy period, whilst Joe Edge still follows HIA protocols.
Max Roberts will miss this weeks action and Jumah Sambou remains several weeks away from fitness.
Games are coming thick and fast for Widnes and with the transfer deadline fast approaching the Vikings will be on high alert for late deals that could strengthen their squad in the final stages of the season.
One to watch (Kieran Dixon)
This weeks one to watch is former Widnes Winger/Full Back Kieran Dixon. The veteran finisher has 282 senior appearances and has added valuable experience to the Salford playing group since his arrival from local rivals Oldham.
Dixon has 201 career tries next to his name and 475 successful goal kicks, a reminder of his threat in attack. Now at the later stages of his career, Kieran will be determined to get one over his former club.
His enthusiasm is infectious and his ability to carry the ball strong will be a threat throughout for Widnes, who will be well aware of his illusive ability.
