Ask the Balmain Tigers fans how good he was The White Pele to them.

Nearly mate. He was actually nicknamed 'The White Pearl' by the Balmain fans because Ellery Hanley who was at another NRL club that year was nicknamed (very unpolitically correctly) 'The Black Pearl'.

Favourite player -choosing 3 as so many Doug Laughton, Offiah & Koloto.  If allowed one only Laughton.

Earliest memory - The first  memory of players in the side  Arthur Pimblett at full back & Bill Major at loose forward circa 1958.

Earliest memory of a match - Jim Measures scoring a hat trick of tries v Whitehaven at home.

Best Coach - Doug Laughton. Perhaps not the best technical coach but he assembled wonderful teams of outstanding players that played the best free flowing entertaining RL football I have ever seen to this day. Won many trophies.

Most under rated player - Malcolm Aspey/ Andy Currier/ Derek Pyke. If one Aspey.

Most over rated player - Hammond

1st game - It was an A team game  circa 1955 my dad took me too & apparently I went off playing with another youngster so was not taken again until 1958. No recollection of it but probably Leigh in A & B motors cup.

Best memory - too many for just one. Winning World Club Championship at Old Trafford, Winning the RL Championship away at Hunslet 1977/78 for first time in club's history. Remember Captain  King Kurt walking away from all the fans on the pitch, including me, after the presentation to be on his own for a moment to reflect with the trophy.

If only allowed one choice the Challenge Cup victory over HKR at Wembley 1964. My first Wembley. We were underdogs and  it ended an incredible cup run of re plays v Leigh, Swinton & Castleford en route to the final. The first trophy I saw us win. A very special day for a 14 year old boy at the time.   Widnes greats Vinty  Karalius & Frank Myler starred that day along with Bob Randall, Briers, Kemel & Collier & the rest of the team.

Charlie Gubb? Or Jack Buchanan?

I actually didn't mind Buchanan. At least, seemed to put in some effort, even if he was ponderous and gave away too many penalties.  With my blinkered eyes, I would suggest that in many games, he was penalised at the ptb, when other players seem to get away with laying on.

Not sure about Gubb in the short time he was with us. He would always run in hard, but took some hard knocks in the few games he played. How many times was he carried off? Perhaps in a better team, he may have been a decent impact player at 6ft 2in and almost 17 stone.

Favourite all-time player: Tony Myler.  One of those players who the term "mercurial" could really be applied.

Earliest Widnes memory: I really can't say the team, I remember standing on the terraces when I was a kid 50 odd years ago.

Best Coach we’ve had since watching: I suppose it has to be Dougie.  Not just his coaching but his recruiting as well and the team he pulled together.

Most Underrated player: Andy Currier, by a lot of Widnes fans when I watched him.  Became the butt of so much unmerited stick.

Most Overrated Player: Anthony Gelling.  Came with a lot of hype and, apart from the tweets, never really did anything positive.

First Game: Again, I can't remember.  Too long ago!

Best Widnes memory: The entire erea when we were the best in the world.  With those players, and the way they played, Widnes were simply a joy to watch.
