🏟️ Widnes Vikings can confirm that the upcoming 1895 Cup quarter-final against Newcastle Thunder will now be played at Robin Park Arena, Wigan due to the DCBL Stadium being unavailable. With a capacity of 1,000, this will be a 'ticket only event' and supporters are advised to book early to avoid disappointment

No thank you

Lots of better nearer options...................

Thatto Heath..already had a Widnes game with a crowd bigger than will be at Robin Park

Prescot Cables ...also much bigger capacity..2000 for a play off game 2 years back

If it`s 1000 max then a couple more non-league football grounds come into play some of which are above 1000 and nearer eg Marine(plastic pitch with a better surface than the Halton Stadium)Warrington Rylands, even FC St Helens (similar to Thatto)

of course we have St Helens SL ground or do they cost too much?

all not mentioned in the list of grounds tried

What are they thinking?

f it

At the end of the day, the Club seemed to have few options. The problem once again created by the inept RFL, who could not make their minds up before the start of the season, whether the competition would go ahead. Have they decided where the final will be yet and what prize money the finalists and winner will receive ?

My guess is that Newcastle will bring about 30, including the team and coaches. We will be lucky to get a crowd of 500. We should ask the RFL to meet any losses on the re-arranged fixture.

A quick Google search tells you its the Halton Wedding Fayre 2026 at the stadium on Sunday the 17th of May from 11am to 3pm.

Wigan venue looks like a big running track.

@cj91

I would have thought we would lose money on this fixture, with a very small crowd and having to pay for the hire of the ground.
Would we be better off giving the game to Newcastle?
I don’t know if you get any money and if you do how much, for getting to the final, because it’s 99.9% certain who’s going to win it.  Unless we beat  Newcastle and then knock them out in the semis😳

Yeah football clubs would love to have to dig footings for rugby posts and have rugby lines painted on for a one off game 🫠

not ideal but I’m sure the club assessed every option that was actually available to them not some fantasy world and if this was the best deal then so be it. It was never going to be highly attended but for a tenner you can’t really complain

mickey mouse competition...in fact that's an insult to Mickey ...could not give a single jot about it as only one team is winning it and the bare minimum lure of Wembley is rumoured to be replaced with belle Vue ...get rid of it FFS ....as for robin park as a venue why is anyone shocked ....our chairman is a Wigan fan has very close links to those in power at the warriors....let's just hope Wigan aren't playing the same day as he might be spending his time tracking their game rather than what's in front of him as he was at barrow

And before anyone gets their knickers in a twist ....I was stood a few feet behind him at the Tesco end when he was raging at his phone when he realised the bill Leyland show had done them over ....not hearsay...just fact
