Vimeo TV games?

Are the club putting the newly released games on a channel other than Vimeo or have I failed to do something?

Assuming that you are a Vimeo subscriber the matches are on. On my tablet they appear automatically but on my laptop I have to click on the "Sort by:" drop-down menu then select "Recently uploaded" . The laters matches should be there.

I hope this helps

Although some videos have no commentary and others vary considerably in picture quality, overall I think that the Vimeo output of past matches is welcome & enjoyable.

At least, for me, it goes some way towards plugging the massive gap created by a lack of real live games.

Vimeo well worth the £50 subscription with over 70 videos from 1989 to the current season.

It does highlight the decline of Widnes as a major force in the game, but also the decline in the quality of the game generally.

The current game is far too predictable with the four drives and a kick for position; or a high kick to the corner for players to try to outjump the beleaguered full back or winger.  Whatever happened to the rule of preventing attacking players from encroaching within 10 metres(?) of the defending player fielding the ball?

The non-scrums today are pretty pointless and simply waste time too. The idea that it opens play is not true in fact, with the inevitable drive up the middle once the ball comes out. They should either be scrapped and allow a tap restart; or revert to "proper" scrums with pivotal roles for props and hookers in winning the ball. The scrums in previous eras were not as bad as some suggest, provided the referee applied the rules and penalised scrum infringements - feeding, striking for the ball too early, collapsing the scrum etc.

It is interesting that rugby union has changed from a predominantly kicking game to a more expansive game, whereas rugby league is now a more controlled kicking game, with field position being the primary concern. Perhaps that is one reason why rugby union has grown and rugby league declined.

Also, rugby union has placed an emphasis on international games with the "elite" players being seconded to the international set-up, whereas there is little interest in current international games. It is those international games in rugby union that attract substantial tv coverage (and income) and grown interest in the sport.  The RL World Cup is an embarrassment to the game and this will be the case until there is some progress in developing the international game within the UK and Europe - why not aim to have a home/european international series each year? The World Cup, including  Austalasian and North American teams, could then possibly become a bit more competitive.

The games appeared! And they have been viewed. I have a pretty good collection of DVDs  from recordings and club sales etc but the older games weren't available and have been interesting. Even saw some shots of Brian Bevan in motion!!!, though not on our site.

It is quite surprising that with the 5 yard rule breaks were still made and clever players seemed to manage to beat defences. There were missed tackles of course and ptbs were a bit sloppy, but generally within the laws of the game. Tackles tended to be a bit rougher and maybe not so efficient.

Maybe we weren't as picky then as we are now? The game was seen as more of a physical encounter that is for sure, particularly derby games. Everyone knew that Charlie Wilcox and Harry Bath would have a scrap, for instance.

Life isn't so physical these days I guess, very few holes are dug with a spade! One thing that I have wished for, for some time, is use of the superb camera work these days to show the fine skills of some of our players. RU skills are blunt by comparison imo and we should cash in on that.

The £50 was a good deal imo too.
