Vikings or no Vikings?

Would we benefit from a rebrand and a change from the 'Vikings' brand?  Is the Viking brand now synonymous with Widnes Rugby Club or would we see any benefit from a change?

I'm not sure the money is there for a rebrand, and I doubt it'd bring the necessary benefits required.

I think we've got Vikings nailed in rugby league terms, and that is probably stronger than Widnes in the way IMG will look at things.

Maybe a change of logo could be an option though, to provide something a bit more engaging.

I still think of us as the Chemics but I think Vikings is fine and is probably slightly more appealing to younger fans who will have grown up with the current nickname.

I’d say we a new badge would be good but is it worth spending money on that or an extra squad member for example.

The Jubilee Bridge was/is on the TV intros and we now have three real standout bridges that maybe usable for the image makers. Otherwise the Vikings is a pretty strong title.

You can see how an 'image' can work when you look at Leigh's efforts.

Agree totally with both James and Sandgropers view, on both new badge and the towns epic landmarks, still baffled why we don’t use the bridges as some form of identification. Every single person of course may have totally opposite view, and of course a much better idea as too were they believe the direction, if any is needed?

True, but look at the shirt sales and the crowd growth.

We haven't got the millions to spend so it has to  be by being smarter. The Ladies team is looking for new players and our merger with the wheelchair group is all grist to the mill as far as IMG criteria are concerned, and should benefit the town as well.

We are all supporters of the team on the field but if we are to progress, or even survive, we need to be stronger as a group unless a billionaire arrives!!!

I've no problem with Vikings as nickname for the club I've always thought it was one of the better ones in RL But we must get rid of the logo for next season it was brought in under the O'Connor regime and should have been removed years ago,But as usual the people who run the marketing side of the club simply ignore the fans wishes. The teamwear for 2024 has no doubt already been designed so it will be another year with the stench of the people who left the club to die all over it.

Can't say I've heard many fans moaning about the 'WV' logo TBH.

It's simple and attractive, which is great for shirts etc and you don't have to look closely to get the message. How many fans give a toss that SOC was in charge when it was devised. Those of us who cheered and sang when we got SL status still remember where we were when it was granted!!!!!

SOC is part of our history, some of it good, some bad, but still part of it!

Some fans aren't as "Forgiving' as you Sandgroper, enough have been asking for a change to the logo for a while,If your OK with the logo staying fair enough.

I personally thing the current logo is too attached to the previous regime and we need a change.  I would even consider dropping the moniker all together and go with Widnes RLFC

It works fine for St Helens & Hull.

If nobody has noticed the logo on the side of the Albion/Cookhouse pub, advertising the 'Fanzone' it looks like a cock with three gonads. Maybe we could use that and go with an Alien theme... Widnes ET Vikings..The team with the Extra Testicles!

For me, the vikings tag is synonymous with the club being a failure. I'd be delighted to see it dropped and renamed widnes rlfc.
