Says he would like to stay in SL but is open to offers from elsewhere

We should be moving heaven and earth to try to get him IMO

Nice idea Ap, more likely to be Matty not Tony

Most likely refering to Bradford.  Can't see us being in the frame

Would be brilliant, but can’t see it whatsoever.

Would he get the control he wants at Widnes? Doubt it.

I appreciate it's a long shot but he does go so far as to say there is nothing on the horizon and if there's anything out there he'd appreciate a call

For me it's simple, if we can afford Tim Sheens we can afford Smith, at least have a stab and show some intent to try to improve and progress the club

Like the way he wants to play, a different character but sees the game like Dougie, fast and open.

But he also needs a budget to spray a round. Iirc didn't Sheens want players at KR and was refused? Then Smith took over and players were signed!!!

Can't see it happening tbh.

Talking to Sheens might be a better bet, if only short term.

Good call, but unlikely. Would he be given seven games to turn the team around before the vultures descend?

More likely to be one of the six potential candidates previously mentioned - John Kear, John Duffy, Andrew Henderson, Denis Betts (really!!), Richard Marshall, Danny Ward and Kevin Brown. Whoever we appoint has a hard job this season if the Club’s ambition to finish in a play-off position is to be achieved.

Interesting that there have been 10 days or so and no real rumours gathering pace about the potential frontrunner.

Maybe doing things well on the QT which is absolutely good, but hope its not a sign of a lack of direction or a lack of clarity of thought.

The trouble with rumours is that you have no idea whether they have any basis in fact. I am also surprised that there have not been rumours of sightings at the ground. Perhaps Finney is in Australia talking to Sheens?

That's the kind of rumour we like....Jason Demetriou seen carrying his shopping?

Wonder if there is a bit of competition between us and Bradford for the same people?

I’ve heard the previous coach didn’t get a pay out as the club are continuing to pay the monthly wage. Does that mean there will be a lack of funds for a new coach? Or is that just how clubs do things when a coach has been released?

I presume from the club's point of view it is not necessarily in a position to pay a settlement of 5 figures because it doesn't have that kind of cash in the bank, especially with gate money so uncertain given the last 6-8 weeks. So paying a monthly salary already accounted for is the most prudent approach.

I suppose the next question is what sort of £££ a new coach would want and where that comes from. Is it going to be removed from any money we had held back for a mid-season signing? Sponsorship? VIQI? Directors investment? Combination of all perhaps.

For the money Smith would command he’d end up driving the coach and running the website.
