It's like deciding not to go the pub for a pint cos you know they won't sell you a bag of crisps after your first few drinks.

Madness, yes it's nice to have a drink when at the match but if not being able to have one for 40 mins means you don't go, it doesn't seem like going is that important to them in the first place.
Surely a case of cutting off your nose to spite your face?

Who has said they won't be going to the game because the bar will close ? Have the posts been removed because I can't find them ?

Frank not been funny but have you ever attended a game ? If you had then you would know there is a mass congregation at the bar before kick off even more so than at half time, then at half time there is a massive congregation and more closer contact for the toilets. You have failed to mention the spike island gig , why is that ?.

I have not attended a game this year, but have attended many games over the past 50 years or so. I am well aware of the congestion in the bar area prior to a game.  Will the bar be open prior to kick-off?

As for Spike Island, you need to ask the organisers of the event about the restrictions or lack of them as you suggest. Maybe it was one of these "test" events that have been run to monitor the impact. I really don't know.

I am not defending the council, but they have a legal duty to carry out a risk assessment, taking account of Government guidelines, to minimise the risk of the spread of the virus. Whether you agree with their  decision or not is irrelevant. The only choice you have is whether you go to the match or not. It is hardly oppression. I presume that you have contacted the club and the council with your objections and advice as to what they should be doing.

Why not just go and enjoy the game and don't get hung-up on the lack of consistency with covid restrictions. Not being funny, but you will soon find something else to moan about anyway.

Besides not going a game Frank you really need to read the thread before trying to defend anything. YES the bar is open before kick of what do you think the dispute is over ?

Not been funny Frank but you will soon find another undefendable subject to defend.

No posts removed people like to make things up because they have no logical explanation to the thread.

I think if you read the thread, the complaints are about the bar being closed at half-time and open during the rest of the game. Tell me if I am wrong, but where is there any mention of the bar being open prior to the game? Hence the question. Thanks for clarifying that - in that case, go and stock up on your beer before the match starts.

If you actually read my thread, I did say that I was not defending the Council, but never mind;  but do understand that they have a legal duty to carry out a risk assessment, to minimise any risk to spectators. I agree that it seems to be illogical to allow congestion at the bar prior to the game, but not at half-time.  You should ask the Council for an explanation for this apparent oversight and they may change the guidance for the next game. In the meantime, be safe and just enjoy the game.

The Council and Club have already stated that the reason is to stop congestion atround the Bars and adjacent Toilets at half time.    Stop moaning and watch the game instsead.

The bar thing doesn't impact me as I don't drink, but it does seem that the Council are making hard work of this.

Rugby clubs will have hard enough of a time as it is to get fans back in, without even more reasons not to bother.

We sometimes get a coffee/tea/bovril at half time. But only if the queue is short. Doesn’t stop us going to the concourse to have a whinge about the game so far with people who we don’t sit with. So do plenty of others

I don’t believe e decision makers have actually been to a Widnes game to know the habits well enough

Is having a pint really that important?

To some people on here or to people they know (some are just moaning hypothetically i reckon because its their right to do so), being able to have a pint of beer at half time is a deal sealer as to whether they go to the game or not. Its pathetic really.

Why is that pathetic? Some people have a match routine that they enjoy, a pie a pint a chat etc. Why would you call that pathetic? Weird.

I never said having a match routine of any sorts is pathetic. I was inferring that some people are moaning so much about the concourse rules amongst other things as if that was the deciding factor as to whether they will attend a game. Surely the main reason we go to matches is to watch the match/Widnes Vikings and anything else for the time being is a bonus. It is for me anyway. Things will get back to normal and maybe we have to stomach a few things that we wouldn't like to for the time being but so be it. I sat in the same seat every home game since the stadium opened right up until the end of the 2018 season before we had to move. Disappointing? Yes. Not enough to make me not want to go anymore. Im not a baby. We move on and continue to support the club.

I've seen quite a few postings since Christmas with people being really petty about why they won't go to the games - 'its my way or no way and that's that' attitude.

The idea of avoiding congestion at a specific time (i.e. at half time) is understandable and sensible from a social distancing perspective. I just wonder if the council considered the possibility that they may have just shifted the problem by 15 minutes ?

The safest thing to minimise risk would be to keep the bar closed. Still for a thread about ‘this weeks match’ it has stopped all that tedious stuff about ........ the match 👍

Its simple oppression by the council maybe Robbo has never seen the Loretta scene from the life of Brian.

I’m very familiar with the Life of Brian having seen it more times than I can remember. To call it oppression is a little strong. Whilst I understand that having a pint at the game is something that some people like to do, it isn’t the be all and end all of watching the match. There are lots of decisions that have been made during this pandemic that people have disagreed with. Some of the decisions AND the disagreements have been logical, some have not. I don’t envy anyone who has to make the decisions on what can and can’t be done at this time as no matter what you decide, somebody will be complaining it is the wrong decision.

So having said that give me your opinion on the difference between queuing for a pint before the game and queuing at half time?

Logged on following the squad announcement looking forward to local insight and a little banter regarding our opportunity to right the wrongs of Mount Pleasant? I always said, when the pieces land they won't make the same jigsaw, how right I was. By the way, has  a  view what the team will look like? How we will contain, perhaps, the form half back in the league (ex Widnes), or are we all meeting in the bar at half time to discuss it? PS can we bring cushions?

My freedom does not end where your fear begins.

If you truly believe it's so dangerous to your family why are you even setting foot inside the gates?

If we go on letting ourselves be ordered about by people with your thinking there will never be any end to this nightmare from which we now have a chance of emerging.

Bet you were one of those claiming that opening up would lead to catastrophe. Look what nonsense that was.
